What's new

You heard it hear first... Trade/Offseason prediction thread!

So.... in what scenario do you imagine acquiring Gasol helps us win the lottery? In other words, if you don't care about winning games, then how do you build any case for acquiring Gasol?

I guess I should rephrase that, I don't really see Gasol helping us win the championship, so a two month rental of him only does something for me if we get a piece in return. I don't really think there is any chance of us winning the lottery, and I would hate it if we lost games on purpose. I don't really buy the whole "suck or win the championship" route either, because I think a smart GM will get good players other ways than the draft.

Personally I hope that they go after bigs that supplement Favors and Kanter as the main bigs instead of taking the spotlight from them and go after a legit point guard or SF/SG.

so you're back to the problem of what else do we get with Gasol....

I don't see anything appealing; and, I don't have the imagination to pull a third team into the equation which results in us getting something better. I guess I'll leave that to you and the other people forwarding some pro-Gasol position.

you convinced me, let's forget about Gasol, and go after someone who can give us a great asset. How about a sign and trade with Houston for Al? They can give us the guy who was the 5 pick and doesn't really play for them.

Houston will likely be able to sign Al outright if they want to. No reason for them to give up assets. Al's a terrible fit for the Rockets anyway, as they like to get up and down and run P&R's.

If I'm not mistaken, this move would put Houston over the cap, so you'll have to propose a trade where salaries match. When I look at their roster, I don't see them giving up the assets which add to Al's likely salary. I like Asik and Lin (sort of)....

I'll have to look that up. I think they are pretty close to the cap, no?
I guess it all depends on how much Al is willing to sign for.

Depends on the cap a bit, but they have a team option on Francisco Garcia and Carlos Delfino's contract is fully unguaranteed next season. They should be able to create $15mm+ of cap space without giving away valuable players or other assets.

kool! I'd love for them to carve away their bench and give a ****load to Al.

another one would bite the dust.

I do think the Jazz make the move for Bledsoe, whether it is draft day, or after CP3 signs a contract. The question is who would we take back with Bledsoe? DeAndre Jordan might even be a bigger mistake than getting Pau, especially if Bledsoe walks after next season. So what will the cost be of getting Bledsoe?

Another move that could make sense is to sign and trade with the Bobcats for one of Millsap or Jefferson, and getting a draft pick or one of their young guys that could turn into a role player to back up one of our young guys eventually.

I think Marvin will be traded, but for who and what? This might be one where we take back a contract that has another year on it, to get a good asset. I heard from a few people that they thought Marvin would be traded at the deadline, so I think the Jazz will try to move him this offseason.

Al's a terrible fit next to Lin/Harden/Parsons/Asik. Just terrible.

I know. That is what is so awesome about it. Pretty sure the Rockets would never sign him though. They would suck for however long they had him.
