What's new

You take Marcus Smart in this draft at #5 and consider it a STEAL. Exum is this drafts TRAP.

Looks kind of like that guy is saying "tar baby sit down". Did they ever figure out what he actually said to Smart to get him to push him.

My concern with smart is that he can't shoot from the outside and made no improvement from his freshman to his sophomore seasons. 29.0% from 3 to 29.9% from 3. Heck Aaron Gordon shot 35% from the 3 point line last year on 45 attempts.

For comparison Trey Burke shot 38.4%.

I see Smart as a smaller slightly less crazy-but still super unpredicitable- Ron Artest. I think we have better options.

On Exum if he really is a PG he might be worth it. But he is a mystery man.

This the most off base comparison I have ever read or thought about him.

And, frr real, if Lindsey wants a San Antonio model on offense, then a jacked-up-all-attack-fast-tempo guy like Smart would be a good addition.

We also need the most important element of SA's success...

Pops.

Why?

He an imposing defender who uses aggression and strength to force players into turnovers.

Offensively he is a bull who forces his way to hoop and draws fouls. He is an inconsistent 3 point shooter. He is a clever passer but not a true point guard.

He is a very emotional player who tries manipulate officials and can be drawn into shoving matches and technical fouls. He has a history of overreacting to fans.

Why can't 'he' be a young Artest or Smart? It turned out that Artest was super crazy but nobody was sure about that when he was drafted. Who is to say that Smart doesn't go down that same path.

Of course Artest is bigger and was more of post up threat and post defender. Smart is a better ball handler and driver. But Artest is the best comparison I can think of for Smart's strength and aggression on the court--which if Smart is under control are huge positives. But there are real concerns about Smart's ability to control his emotions.
