What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Sportando is saying we will be signing William Howard. He's been with our SL roster but has not played yet. I don't know what type of contract we will sign him to... or if it's just a camp invite or something.

Utah invested a $150k in his buyout. Teams don't usually do that for a SL or training camp invite. Pretty sure he'll be the 14th signing.

We pretty regularly give around 100K bonuses to camp invites. Last year we waived Bolomboy who had something like... 600K guaranteed on his contract. 150K is not a little but IMO it's possible he doesn't have a guaranteed spot and is rather a camp body for competition for those last 2 spots. The important thing here will be how many years the deal is and whether he has fully guaranteed 1st year(this is usually the hallmark of a player they are planning to keep - for example, O'Neale had similar contract - nobody knew who he was and all of a sudden they gave him 3 year contract with fully guaranteed 1st year. We should wait and see what his contract is like and draw some conclusions from it.

I think it would need to be a few years with some guaranteed money to get him to go. Difference between giving a bonus and actually buying out his contract, which the Jazz did the latter.

So I’ll preface this post by saying this is entirely hypothetical. Yes, the roster is set. No, this would never happen. Just clarifying for the inevitable “ZOMG this ain’t happening lol” post.

That said, we’ve got a good team defense but could still use some individual specialists to throw at guys depending on the situation. Exum can be that guy, but I think he’s limited in that he can guard the smaller perimeter guys like a Harden and Curry, but is going to get outmuscled by the bigger guys like a Kawhi or PG. I’d move Exum and Bradley to OKC for Andre Roberson and Patrick Patterson. That gives us more size and shooting options at the 4, but gives you a guy who can body the LeBrons, Kawhis, PGs, and Giannises. He’s very limited offensively. Much more so than Exum, but he’s a really good defender, really strong, and I’d be thinking of utilizing him football style at the end of close games where you can sub out defensive and offensive teams. To replace what we’d lose defensively from Exum off the bench, I’d sign Iman Shumpert to a minimum deal. He’s not getting a ton of minutes, but him and Roberson are defensive closers in all those end-game defensive possession situations.

If you're trying to build a contender, yeah, it kinda does.

The whole point is to dump your resources into high-end talent that can play together. The only scenario Favors fits into that is a completely unrealistic one: he signs for the MLE or less to play strictly as a backup.

Remember when this guy couldnt shut the **** up about dumping Favors? Now DFavs is the missing link. We could be rolling with last year's team minus Rubio plus Bojan Clarkson and Mud. That team would be fun and we wouldn't be getting punked all the time with Jae and Favors out there.

Who said "Derrick Favors isn't part of the problem, he is part of the solution?" It was that lying sack DL right after the end of last season. You had Jae wanting to recruit some buddies, Korver wanting to give it one more run, Rudy looking forward to a healthy Neto and what he would bring, Grayson coming off a 40 point game in the show and two first round draft picks. I could have been GM and not screwed it up as badly.
