Youtube: 2001 Mavericks/Jazz - Game 1 - (Nowitzki's 1st Playoff Game)

That was a heart breaker. I was expecting us to advance easy. Michael Finley was also awesome in that series. Still upset about the game Dirk and Nash kept burying threes (or was that the whole series?) and Nash sunk one from almost half court at the halftime buzzer with two guys on him.

Also, did Dirk even miss a FT that entire series?

That was Game 4 - and I agree I still get upset when I think about that explosion. Sadly Utah lost the series in Game 3 - when they had a 1-point lead with less than a minute to play, but Dallas got the win and the confidence that came with it, then Malone injured his back during the Game 4 blowout and it hampered him in Game 5.

donyell marshall used to drain 3s! haha
Bizarrely enough, Donyell has the NBA record (along with Kobe) for most 3-pointers in a game with 12. One of the alltime "WTF records," especially since he was a sub-par 3pt-shooter with the Jazz.

I'm glad I was on my LDS mission during this year I'm sure a series like this would've broke me up, and a sad sad little man.

Sad that even though I knew the outcome of that game I was sitting on the edge of my seat watching that. So fun to watch Stockton pick apart a defense again even at that age. I am going to be so upset if this season is lost to a lock out. I need my Jazz.

You watch these and can't believe how much emotion is in that arena. That's what's missing with the Jazz and the NBA as a whole these days.

Thanks for posting!

If a lockout does happen we should have a game of the week or something - highlighting a game or series from the past. Just to get us through the slow times and distract from the painful trade scenarios taking over the board. It could be stickied at the top for that week or few days - starting this fall. Just a thought.

It does feel like the whole enterprise as a whole has become more and more "sanitized" in the negative sense. It's more and more a business and less and less a game.

I feel like the evolution of sports in this area is summed up pretty well by championship victory celebrations nowadays. Used to be that fans would rush the court/field. Now the fans are all kept at arm's length by security, and the only people who rush in are the media. It's just less personal that way. I'm not saying it's wrong, but that's just the way it is now, and I can't help but be a little nostalgic when I see videos of teams winning titles and being immediately surrounded by hordes of fans.

Glad we agree.

Trigger, you're posting on this forum but not the Cubs forum any more??? I can't say as I blame ya..

I watched this whole clip and it reminded me of why I am a Jazz fan and what made it so special. Stockton, even at 39, was making passes and plays we don't see nowadays. I often wonder how great Malone would have been without a guy like Stockton. Malone was my favorite player but I don't think he would have been anywhere what he was without a guy like Stockton. I guess this is prevalent in all sports. What would Rice be without Montana/Young? etc etc...

Those Stockton passes were just crazy. Makes me realize that I don't appreciate him enough even though I consider him my favorite player of all time (yes, Fes is #2).
