What's new

Trey Burke is my new whipping boy

Hey, on a similar note, I think one of the reasons our defense is rated so low is because our guards don't rebound well, leading to extra high-percentage 2nd-chance points for opponents. It also doesn't help that our bigs have to go running around to cover for our perimeter defenders. But if this is going to happen, then the guards have to make an effort to rebound.

Two years ago, a sports publication did a good analysis of what was wrong with the Jazz's defense that year. They basically concluded that the problem was Randy Foye because he didn't rebound. Every line-up that had Randy Foye in it was a net negative on the defensive end.

True story.

Didn't you know we're running the Ranadive offense? Guards are supposed to be down court waiting for a long pass and easy score!

Glad we've moved on from Kwame Kanter to Kwame Burke.

Burke should bring his percentages up to 41/33 by the end of the season-- my prediction.

The Exorcism continues.

The rest of the starters get a lot better on both offense and defense. Hard for Quin to know what tweaks he has to make to his systems when he has such a liability right at the top of it all. Also a mentor for Dante. What can Burke teach Exum? Well, Trey shoots FT's really well. Dante is very, very raw. I just don't see him starting for another couple of seasons.

I don't see a trade happening until this summer, though. DL will want to look at where we're at after the draft and perhaps assess what FA's might be available.

Welp, that prediction was a little off. And how about Burke? Not that I would have disagreed with Sir Stifle at the time.

if trey can get rid of his usual stinkers every 4-5 games then he would be consistently avging 16-17pg per game in this league. but he always gets one of those stinkers which bring his stats down.

Quinn deserves some credit here too. Bringing Trey off the bench allows him to get into more pick and roll situation and 1-4 flat sets. He wasn't good in the motion offense because he dribbles too much. He is used to controlling the ball. I think he is more comfortable too.

Also props to Trey for not being a bish about it and having the self awareness that he might not be one of the best players of his generation. Him filling this role could be huge for him and us.

Not really. Is Dante "ready" to start? Not at all. He's there because Snyder HAD to make a move with Trey. Burke was ruining the offense and Hayward wasn't even getting touches for long stretches of the 1st quarter. I remember so many times thinking to myself, "damn, Gordon, you're a max player - our best option on offense. Why are you non-existent to start the game?" And then I'd watch and see that it was due to Trey pretending he was Russell Westbrook.

Dante shouldn't be a starter with the way he plays on offense. I keep going back to what Lindsey said to Harpring right after the break about Exum being just a "placeholder" when he's in there. And I'm not sold on Burke yet. He's still a freakin' ballhog. Some of his wild shots have been going in. Can we expect that to continue? And even at that, his total FG percentage during this "hot" period has still been 40% - not nearly high enough.

I think we need to sell high on Trey. He's going to want t0o much money to return. And I doubt he'll want to be a backup. He'd probably want to go somewhere he can start. This summer or at the next deadline is likely the best time to let him go. I'd also like to see what Neto could do. He's looked impressive in the clips that have been posted.
