Unless you factor alec into the pg mix
I could see Alex starting at 1 and just having Hayward play the pg on offense.

Yes, there was always concern about the Kanter/Favors combination, even before KOC & DL committed to them by not bringing back Jefferson or Millsap. Of course, over the past 2 years we've seen Favors expand his range and develop some offensive moves. What Utah loses on offense by Derrick not having range out to the three is more than made up for on the defensive end by the Favors/Gobert juggernaut. It is a curious turnaround. I remember hearing DL spin that "Favors is really a 5" in 2014 pre-season, and thinking that he does not really see it that way, but is trying to rationalize Kanter-Favors as a starting front court.
Excellent point. I never realized Withey was much of a rim protector until seeing the stats. Utah is one of the few teams that is really committed to shut-down interior defense.Trend in NBA is to value stretch bigs, undervalue rim protectors. DL is making a contrarian bet and picking him up for value.
I love the signing. I think he and Booker are "solid enough" to provide two important things for our bigs: rest and reduced pressure. We've got Lyles and Pleiss coming in as backups who are likely both going to be major liabilities (assuming typical learning curves) for most of the year. This takes the pressure off playing either of them if they're losing a game for us and still means we've got someone who can give Favors and Gobert a rest without totally having to change on-court philosophies.

Good points. Lyles is a project and we have no idea how Pleiss will fit. Utah is committed to designing their schemes with Gobert in the middle. If Withey can be Gobert-lite, Jazz can run the same offense and defense with their 2nd unit.
Although he's older, Withey could be an effective backup in Quin's system. I guess the way to look at it is, if the Jazz do decide to keep 6 bigs, is Withey a better fit than Cooley or Jerrett. And the answer, IMO, is probably yes.
PROBABLY??? SERIOUSLY????
He can shoot. 41% on his 3's in college and 38% in the Dleague. I'd say that's far from "sucking." He could be a role player if Snyder believes there are situations where he wants 3PT range. And that's a commodity we don't have with any of our other bigs.Lol. Grant Jerrett sucks.
