Question for ya'll

What do you all think of the gov. offering discounts/tax breaks/subsidies... for going to a college or buying a home in an area where you are a minority? It would have to meet certain %s and what not.

Like a black man getting a tax credit for buying a home in southern Utah, a white woman getting education subsidies for going to a historically black college and a Mexican woman getting education subsidies for going to a predominately white college?

The idea is to foster real life diversity and create exposure. America is increasingly self segregating and we need to reverse that.

How is that relevant? A group expressing a hateful opinion doesn't infringe on anyone's rights. Their behavior certainly isn't 'tantamount' to a crime. Out of curiosity, what right do you think anyone has over my expressed opinions?

Further, do you actually think it's a good idea to restrict/outlaw an individual's right to assemble and express opinions because that individual, or the group he seeks to join, shares characteristics with other hateful individuals or groups? Maybe we should outlaw the practice of Islam because of the existence of radical/violent Islamists. Fair?

That you can't grasp the problem with the nonsense you're spouting -- or even understand why I've labeled it illiberal -- is troubling. Is there anything more illiberal than seeking to restrict or outlaw free speech and assembly?

Ah, definitely not. Things are vastly better than they've been for almost all of history. Segregation was actual law not that long ago.

Stoked just likes to use the word "increasingly" for things that are obviously not increasing.

Has there always been segregation? Yes

But I see self segregation as on the rise. I'm not on a computer where I really want to search that. I have read article son it in Rueters, Salon, civilrights.org... there are tons of articles talking about this from educational and economic standpoints.

I never said segregation didn't exits. I just think people are choosing it willingly more and more.

We need to brake that trend and encourage mingling.
