What's new

Who do you think the Jazz will Draft?

I'm leaning toward Paul George right now. He has the size and quickness to match up against Durant and everyone will need someone to slow him down next ten years.

I will say though that Ed Davis with his injury and so-so year at UNC is probably a bit underrated at the moment. His stock would probably be rated a 'buy'.

I strongly believe the Jazz will do one of these 5. Hopefully it will be a combo of #1 and buying an extra pick to get Sanders
1. Trade up and get Cousins
2. Draft Aminu if he falls
3. Draft Ed Davis
4. Trade down and draft Sanders and a wing
5. Draft Luke Babbitt and buy an extra pick and get Sanders

I think you've got it pegged pretty well. I just think that Paul George is in play as much as Babbit is in your option 5.

Aminu is 6'7.25" and just another Hakim Warrick. He made only 24% of his jump shots this season. Even more alarming, he converted only 48% of his shots around the rim. His A/T ratio is the worst (0.43) among all SF prospects. He would not help the Jazz.

Ed Davis has no offensive skills to speak of. He's just another Dale Davis. Rebounds and put backs. That's it.

Sanders would help the Jazz in a backup PF capacity, but the Jazz need a starter at #9 in the lottery.

I'm for drafting Luke Babbitt or Paul George at SF.

I think Paul George is the right pick in this draft at #9, unless Babbit really showed the ability to defend and the ability to create on offense beyond just jumpshots.

I'm struggling to figure out what Aminu will do that we didn't just trade away with Ronnie Brewer. Maybe rebound a little more.

DraftExpress, NBADraft.net, HoopsHype, Chad Ford 6.0 all say the Jazz will draft one Luke Babbitt. The interweb can’t be wrong, can it?

I like that pick. As someone else already stated, Korver and Matthews are FA's and AK will be next summer. If we got him and Pittman in the 2nd round, I'd be happy with our draft.

The Jazz, unable to reach a final decision before their time on the clock is up, will be the first franchise in NBA history to get passed over and forfeit their first-round draft choice due to inaction.

Ed Davis if he's available, if not, Babbit.

Anyone who thinks Whiteside will be taken with a top 10 pick is out of their mind!

I would prefer Patterson over Davis for sure. I feel like he would contribute immediately and will need to with Boozer leaving and Okur's health uncertain.

I'm curious, did you actually watch any UNC games last year? I'm guessing not, because anyone who did knows that inept guard play ruined his season. Pair him with someone like DWill, and he will be a monster.

Though Davis was pretty productive overall relative to his touches, he ranked right around the average in post up situations in terms of efficiency (0.84 PPP) and usage (4 Pos/G). He benefitted from the play of his teammates, finishing his possessions from basket cuts at an excellent 77.8% clip. In contrast, he shot just 28.6% in a meager sample of spot-up opportunities (0.4 Pos/G). Clearly, Davis still needs to improve his midrange game to become a more capable threat from the elbows and a more versatile scorer.

Attempting the fewest jump shots on our list at just 0.4 shots per-game, Davis got a larger percentage of his shots in finishing situations than every player on our list aside from Latavious Williams. Though Davis was able to be pretty effective on the whole, he’s a bit limited in what areas he can help a team at this time. Whatever team drafts him will do so with the hope that he’ll be able to round out the rest of his game while still taking advantage of what his teammates can create for him around the basket.

What's the difference between Ed Davis and Larry Sanders?

Also, why is Davis talked about so much more than Patterson or Sanders? Especially Patterson, who at least from what I've seen, has a far more refined game. It's not like Davis is going to be a player for a while. He's skinner than Andrei. That's not solving our situation down low anytime soon. In fact, I'd be down right pissed if we take Davis. We cannot have our PF/C weigh as much as our PG.
I guess considering that Patterson and Sanderson aren't exactly heavy either...

But anyway, drafting 200-220 pound big men isn't going to change anything.

I think the Jazz should go after a wing. Work next year's draft/FA to get a big if all that's left are these 200 pound big men at #9. Perhaps if we get multiple picks in the first round we can roll the dice on one of these big men projects. But not with just the #9 pick alone. We cannot lose Boozer, a 260 pound 20 point 10 rebound guy who is the focus of our offense and replace him with a 200 pounder who's going to take 3 years to sniff the court. Doing so is a few steps backwards.

Might as well draft another shooter or someone that can create to ease the pressure of Deron.
