Never Trump

I just got this in the mail

It says that to vote for a republican candidate you have to register yourself with the republican party. Wtf?
So if I'm just a free thinking, willing to listen to both democratic ideas/candidates and republican ideas/candidates then I'm not able to cast my vote for a republican individual who I like?

That's strange.
If every state had closed primaries Trump's candidacy probably would have died a quick death. In fact, I doubt he would have run as a Republican. Despite what some people want you to believe he has relied heavily on Democrat and Independent voters crossing over to vote on the Republican ticket.

Why do you think they want it to be members only? I'm curious as have no idea why that would be advantageous.
In a closed primary it's much more likely that the party's base is going to pick their candidate. In 2008 after the McCain secured the nomination Rush Limbaugh was instructing his listeners to cross over to vote for Hillary Clinton in the open democratic primaries in an effort to force them into a contested convention. As a result Hillary got a lot of votes, not from people who wanted her to win the presidency, but from voters who simply hated the Dems and wanted to mess with their process.

Good answer, thanks

BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if Limbaugh did the same thing again this year. Now that the Republican primary is effectively over he might tell his listeners in states who have not yet voted to vote for Bernie just to create chaos at their convention.

Turns out he's already done it:

Also, Hillary's recently made comments that she won something like 6 of the last 7 primaries in 2008 and was closer to overtaking Obama than Bernie is to overtaking her, yet she stepped aside at the convention for the good of the party. She said he should follow her example from 8 years ago. I wonder how much her winning streak at the end of the process was due to Limbaugh's strategy, though. Of course she is bragging about the vote total she got, but undoubtedly a portion of those votes were from people who were only messing with her.

The Bernie/Hillary race might be about to tighten up, and not because of voters who will pick either of those candidates in the general election. The strategy could create a real mess for the Dems because unlike Hillary, Bernie isn't a Dem at all. He doesn't care about the "good of the party." He's more like Trump who would love to execute a hostile takeover.

We've got a backlash against the most intransigent ideological political hack ever to pontificate from the Oval Office, and there's a huge impression that Trump is everything he's not.

So you're referring to Obama? Wow.

So have you sought treatment for your, apparently, serious case of Obama derangement syndrome?

OBDS WOW. Are u serious? The guy is a lunatic Washington insider controlled by corporate interests. You do realize he is a career politician who took more Wall Street and evil money than every president in history including Hillary?

And yet he's been one of the better presidents during my lifetime. Crazy.

He's been particularly great if you love debt. And just wait until the interest rates go up. It's gunna be a real party.
I actually have no debt. Both cars paid off, zero credit card balance, my wife and my own credit scores both around 815. Only debt is my home. And my income is pretty low too.

NeverDrumpf here. He has got to be one of the most thin-skinned people in history.

And what is with Sarah Palin getting so much press lately? The Queen of Stupid is back and not nearly as intriguing as she was in her bikini with a rifle.

From Reuters today:

"Underscoring the party's divisions, Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate and a Trump supporter, criticized Ryan for failing to endorse Trump. The conservative populist firebrand said she would work to defeat Ryan in his Aug. 9 primary race against a conservative businessman."

I'm in the same boat as you and I've worked hard to be there, but guess what. Your share of the government debt is huge, Bro.
