What's new

My expectations for the Jazz this summer:

I think that with zero more additions and with Exum not showing any improvement we get around 50 wins if we stay relatively healthy.

If we add dudley or bazemore or batum or gasol and Exum makes some decent improvement then watch out! Jazz get homecourt and the 2 round of playoffs.

Would love Pau, but he probably wants to start (and would deserve to). Doubt he comes here...but man what a great fit he would be.

Totally agree, I would love to have Pau on our roster. He wants to play for a contender, and if DL makes his magic happen this team could be a contender with some tweaks.

We need to go really hard after Pau and Batum to complete a championship caliber team. On July 1st, the first calls they receive must be from our FO guys.

Hill/Exum/Neto
Hood/Burks/Korver
Hayward/Batum/Ingles
Favors/Lyles/Bolomboy
Gobert/Pau/Withey

Also, bring back Korver as 3pt/Ft specialist and also fan base favorite.

What about Gerald Green? Struggled in Miami, but the party scene is too big for him there. He had a good year in Phoenix...worth a flyer?

Who goes to the bench if we land Pau? I think the situation could turn nightmarish unless you can get him to play from the bench, which seems like an impossible sell for the Utah Jazz who have also been a bad team for the majority of the last 5/6 years.

I don't think we could afford to pay Gasol. In order to come here, we would have to overpay in amount per year and years. It would be a mistake to do that. We aren't a contender, we aren't very good. There is no reason to come here for him unless we completely overpay him. In my opinion.

First, I do think Utah makes a big signing this summer.

drum roll....

Derrick Favors. I do believe that after three years you can renegotiate your deal. The Jazz do that. Instead of Favors taking two years to make 20 million, the Jazz sign Favors to a 3-4 year deal around 75 million (over 20 per year). It's good for Favors, because he gets more money now, and if he gets a three year deal he will still make a ton of money over his career (more than if he waited out his current deal) and it helps the Jazz keep the cap number down as they would get Favors a lot cheaper on that third year.

Then they extend Hill out for three years.

I think they make a run at Dudley to be a stretch four. I'd bet we give him a two year deal, around 10-12 per year.

I still think we need a better starting wing and would love to push Hood to the bench. Then we are really, really good. BUT, I don't think that happens with the Favors renegotiation and Hayward next year. Hayward, Favors and Exum is our core and that is our future.

The Jazz buy out Burke and don't re-up Mack's contract. Why keep Mack and Neto was solid and a lot cheaper?

So, we will look like this come Oct:

Hill, Exum, Neto
Hood/Burks/Hill
Hayward/Hood/Ingles
Favors/Dudley/Lyles
Gobert/Favors/Withey

I like that team. Hopefully we stay around .500 through Jan and then hopefully come Feb Exum really starts to come into his own and takes the starting job. That then makes us look like this:

Exum/Hill/Neto
Hill/Hood/Burks
Hayward/Hood/Ingles
Favors/Dudley/Lyles
Gobert/Favors/Withey

I know I have Hill starting over Hood, but they are interchangeable. I put Hill starting because he is a better shooter and a better defender. He can space the floor for Exum and defend better. That being said, I see minutes looking like this:

Beginning of the year:

Hill (25), Exum (15), Neto (12)
Hood (25), Burks (20), Hill (8)
Hayward (30), Hood (8), Ingles (8), Burks (8)
Favors (25), Dudley (15), Lyles (15)
Gobert (30), Favors (8), Lyles (10), Withey (8)

End of the year:

Exum (25), Hill (15), Neto (12)
Hill (10), Hood (20), Burks (25)
Hayward (30), Hood (10), Burks (8), Ingles (8)
The rest the same.

I think if this team can stay around .500 until the end of Jan and if Exum can develop like the Jazz hope, we can make a run at 45-50 wins at the end of the season.

That is what I expect from Utah and I am ok with it. Should be fun to actually see a good team that can compete for the playoffs this year.

I wouldn't really be a fan of bringing in Dudley at stretch four personally. Because it would take minutes away from Lyles who we are supposedly developing for that role. Especially at 10-12 mill per... yikes. I also think we keep Mack. He was simply to good to let go. Especially when his team option is for cheap

This is the roster I see

Until Exum is healthy

PG- Mack/Exum/Hill/Neto
SG- Hood/Hill/FA pickup
SF- Hayward/Ingles/FA pickup
PF- Favors/Lyles/Bolomboy
C- Gobert/FA pickup/Pliess

When Exum is healthy

PG- Exum/Hill/Mack/Neto
SG- Hood/Hill/FA pickup
SF- Hayward/Ingles/FA pickup
PF- Favors/Lyles/Bolomboy
C- Gobert/FA pickup/Pliess

I think they trade Burke and Burks (he just can't stay healthy). And they sign a legitimate backup center because the team struggled when Rudy was off the court. They also sign a versatile wing that can play at the 2 or 3. And I think Mack starts if Dante isn't ready because it will allow Hill to take the role of the first guard off the bench, a role I think he's better suited for.

SCS - nice post. I'm tired of letting people develop. I want to win. If Lyles wants to develop, do it during the summer. Hayward, Exum, etc are here working out. Develop then and then beat our Dudley.

In re: to Gerald Green.....

Yes. Reminds me of JR Smith. When in the right system can be very effective but when in a big market, can't control himself. Good defender, good shooter, great athlete, great energy guy off the bench.

Would hayward be happy if the jazz land danny green from the spurs? What about dudley? Lets say gerald green?

Is he talking about a big name like derozan? Or a huge over pay for barnes? Would batum rock his boat?

Is getting burks back and healthy count? Big improvement from hood or lyles? Maybe exum improving on his freshman year?

Is bringing in his buddy hill what he wanted? (he and hayward are friends and usually work out together in the offseason)

Is getting rid of burke a good enough increase? (Addition by subtraction) was he happy with mack or neto?

To many questions not enough answers.
