What's new

The win-now movement = Moral victories. KD to the Warriors means they've overplayed their hand

I cant wait to watch the Jazz this year, they play the style of ball I like to watch.. Looking at the rim protection in the finals and for most of the playoffs was absurd to me. I must've said to myself "Rudy or Favors blocks that" 1000 times

This is why we watch. We know we probably wont win the title unless we have some luck. But fans love an underdog story. That is why there were so many warriors fans after they got good.

We get that the warriors will probably win, but it doesn't make sense to give up the opportunity to compete for a slim chance just because one team is a favorite.

If you look back at all the favorites, there have always been other teams as well. It's the warriors now, but it was the Heat before them, and Kobe before that, Shaq before that, Jordan before that, Magic before him. Are they the only teams that ever win? NO.

Spurs, Pistons, Celtics, Rockets, almost 90's knicks and Jazz beg to differ. Competition is always worthy.

Its not like the Jazz mortgaged their future this offseason anyway. They made exactly 2 "win-now" moves. Only one of them is of any consequence with respect to staying young -- trading the 12th pick -- and while someone picked after 12 will definitely be good in 5 years, none of the prospects seem that compelling. We'll also have a worse draft pick this year. So what. We still have a young ****ing roster, and our only true chance at ever winning anything, our lotto ticket, Exum, is still young as ****.

Obviously Kd just **** on whatever optimism each team had for competing I am interested to see how this impacts other teams this offseason.

precisely, It's not just the Jazz that got the rug pulled out from under their feet..

It only amplifies the fact that there's no reason the JAzz should be struggling to win-now when the move is clearly win-later..

I don;t look at it like that.. To me when the Jazz have demonstrated this ability to pluck gems in the draft, I know that if they just keep doing that it's going to pay off. With the win-now possibility not being a tangible one IMO i'd take plenty of solace in seeing a roster filled with lottery picks just making incremental improvements to their games.

Ya gotta understand thats all I ever wanted from a team, build from the draft.. It's how championships are won..

I've seen free agent style win-now moves fail every conceivable way in my time as a Knicks fan.. I'll always be weary of those type of moves.

Everyone I know, knows me as a Jazz fan.. Its funny how y'all are in denial about that LOL. It's like people gotta make up their own details to argue with me here..

My bad, then. I thought you had said many times you were a Knicks fan or something and just more a "fan of basketball." If you say you're a jazz fan then I'll take that at face value.

I too believe in building through the draft and free agency is there to pluck a one missing piece.
I felt we were well poised about three years ago but I block that **** out once it's passed and don't dwell on it. Particularly since my first love UK bb.

I just don't like your strategy of being as bad as you possibly can in order to build. The timing is off to start that process. GSW will be good for too long. Instead we need to be good to the fans, make the playoffs, sign value deals, and hope for some luck on the way.

I'm okay with tanking, but only strictly situationally and not over undefined periods of many seasons. That's just such a bad culture and a suck situation for fans.

No but in the context of the teams that dont have a chance (majority) they are losing some footing in the youth movement rankings, obviously the Timberwolves are top dogs.. The Lakers are making great strides in that area, Denver, Suns.. Yet the Jazz are putting the pedal to the medal..

They could've had players like Jaylen Brown, Dragan Bender, Marquese Chriss or Jamal Murray..

Why win-now going into this absurdly loaded draft in 2017? It seems panicked to me and I understand why, Lindsey wants to make the playoffs to save face.

They're putting the pedal to the "medal" by aging? Even if the jazz didnt sign hill or johnson, they still get the 12th pick at absolute best next year. Their formerly young peeps are getting older improving, thats the whole point of youth movement. Signing two guys isn't over accelerating at all man

Lindsay has like six draft picks next year...

Aight now i know u are trolling. This is a very disingenuous baiting post. only way the jazz get even a remote top piece of the upcoming draft is by not only not signing anyone, but trading hayward or gobert. and this last draft was consensus terrible

I disagree. When you win a championship all is forgiven, and the fans will bandwagon tenfold. So i fully subscribe to by any means necessary and to have a plan and go at it full force.

The Jazz have a youth movment but they've hedged it at precisely the wrong time. Season didn't even start and it already looks ridiculous.

Eh...those guys are nothing great. Boston was trying to trade that 3rd pick like mad and couldn't find a taker.

You're playing dumb to make your point.. :p

Are you not going to acknowledge the widespread rumors of the Celtics and Suns offers for Hayward?

Weak draft in the eye of the beholder.. It's far to early to cast that aspersion.. They haven't even played a game yet, how are you so certain of this?

Because teams like the Jazz were bamboozled into some win now mindset LOL..

Clearly it was time to sell..

They can correct the move by trading Hayward at the deadline, who knows if they can extract that same value though.. I say strike when the irons hot.

They have tons of room for improvement.. what happened to cheering for player development?

It's funny how quickly narratives change when people get defensive.

I disagree with everything you have written here.
So let's just agree to disagree.

Peace.
