Hayward is gone

Yes. True. My point is simple - why does he consider Boston?:

- the last time he fought in meaningful games, he played under Stephens.
- the East is easier so he would win a playoff series every year of added to that roster.
- I don't think he's all about money. It helps, but don't think that's his only motivation.

good points. But i think our rosters upside is significantly better than Boston. Does he go to a cushy soft conference with a team that can easily get through a couple of playoff series and then get waxed by LeBron or does he stay with a team that has a fight on its hands every playoff round but that potentially could compete with the best in the west ? I'd find it hard to believe that a competitor would want to go somewhere because it's easier

Isaiah is very good. He's an offensive talent that is best built for a playoff game. Horford is a good big. Bradley is a top notch 6th man. Crowder is a grinder.

We have more players with more potential, but their roster is set up great for Hayward to slide right in.

And they play in a weaker conference.

As good as he is IT is 5ft9. Come a 7 game series against highest quality opposition, he will be targeted and exploited defensively. Over the course of a hard playoff series he's not going to get any taller. Boston are good but Horford isn't a top tier player, unless they get someone like Boogie or hit the jackpot with their draft picks i can't see them really getting any better than 3rd in the east.

I don't have any concerns about Hayward choosing somewhere else from a talent/competing point of view. I'm interested to see if he truly wants to be top dog on his team or whether he is interested in teaming up with a real top flight star

He's also the type of guy that is no fun to play with... not that he's selfish but will dominate the ball.

IT is a ball hog isn't he? Hayward is also most effect with the ball in hand making plays for himself and others?

Hayward & Hill feels like a much better fit to me.

He wouldn't be the top dog on either team.

IT and Rudy are the top dogs. Dawg.

My point stands - the last time he played for anything was under his college coach Stephens.
If you're telling me that a player's first playoff games at the highest level in the sport (the NBA) is not meaningful, and less important than a college championship game, then your point simply isn't worth listening to.

You mean like LeBron going to Miami and Durant going to Golden State?

Taking the big money and soft option isn't even a new thing. Back in the 90s, the Blazers' Brian Grant was a Free Agent and looking to cash in - but only wanted to play for a contender. An unnamed GM was quoted as saying, "If I'm paying a player that much money, I'd expect them to *make* my team a contender." Now players are openly engaging in anti-competitive collusion to band together just to get a ring, but without giving up any money.

I think Lamarcus Aldridge is a pretty good comparison for Hayward's situation.

Those are two different scenarios. I more mean going from West to East where the general level of competition is easier, even though the chance of winning a title wouldn't be any easier (or if anything less likely) The other two came as close as you could to making it a lock to win a title.

Hayward will leave, and go to a system with better spacing and offense.

I feel like that is the minimum to keep Hayward. If we have another disappointing end to the year and he doesn't even win a playoff series, why stay? For promise? For potential?

He's ready to win. He's ready to progress.

Making the playoffs is progress. I assume he will see that. I also think we will win the first round of the playoffs and be competitive in round 2.

Also Boston has not got out of the first round of the playoffs yet with their group.

Again, the number of teams that would be able to offer Hayward a big contract and a better chance to win is very limited.

For example, Boston is rated a couple spots higher in offensive efficiency right now, while Utah is rated much higher defensively. Overall rating is in Utah's favor, let alone if Utah had been heathy all year.

This discussion kind of reminds me of all the posters on this board last year complaining about the rebuild and pointing to the Blazers as a team to look to as to how things should be done. Utah was always a better team than Portland, but some people just refuse to take into account the impact of injuries, and continue to underrate their own team.

Anyone assuming Hayward is going to find a better situation and still get a huge contract just doesn't really have a grasp on the situation. Unless you think he is going to take a massive pay cut, there aren't any situations that are obviously better than Utah.

the fact that they wanna move ****in marcus smart and jae crowder for that white kid that used to play at butler, for brad stevens, ya know, I'm like reverse racist when it comes to basketball, we're gonna trade a black guy and draft picks for a white guy, who plays in utah ... Idk I've heard the guys a beast, whatever his name is , hawthorne or some **** like that

Just heard this on Bill Burr's weekly podcast. He's one of the smarter guys in the boston sports world.
