What's new

Cars that you like

So why respond at all, then?
How long did you keep your chest puffed out after basically telling him he's a douche?

Oh please. After years of this, a little hard truth is needed. I've been there before, acting the same way. Somebody having a difficult conversation with me helped. Can't just tell people what they want to hear.

Okay good.
You're a dick and should consider being nicer.

Agree that a new hobby will help. Expand your circle of friends. Don't do **** just to meet a girl. Do things to have fun, and join social groups to do these activities. Ski, kayak, bike, travel, join a dodgeball league, join a cult, whatever.

As far as cars go, imo, buying a cheap/older german car is a bad idea. Look at the average repair cost for a Merc or Audi. I stay in the Toyota family as reliability and resale is amazing (the resale makes me tend to buy new toyotas as the used prices are a bit nuts), and replacement parts are reasonable and easy to source.

You can look at a car as a tool or you can look at a car as something to be excited about. I'd buy a used BMW, Audi, etc. over a new Toyota, Chevy, etc. every time, not for image, but because I like cars that perform exceptionally. But nothing screams boring louder than pulling up for your hot date in a Toyota Camry. A Tundra on the other hand gives off a good manly vibe.

Fair enough. I guess i am not the type to date women who care what i drive, at least not for a serious relationship. My point was spending $11k on a mercedes is going to cost you as much or likely more as driving a new camry after you have had a few repairs. But of course we should all drive what we want.

And FWIW,I prefer my 200 series Toyota Land Cruiser to any Audi or BMW SUV (outside of classic muscle, i am not a car person, and my hobbies make a truck or SUV more attractive). I also like bigger vehicles for the safety factor...

If you really want to get the girl buy a mini van.

It says:
1. You get so many ladies you need a vehicle to drive up to 6 of them at a time.
2. You have high confidence you are willing to own a mini van despite having no children.
3. You can give her the D comfortably in the back of the minivan.
4. You can move furniture when she inevitably wants to move to your place when she falls madly in love with you.

If one love is being real about all of this, find a car that let's you do something fun.

Also, girls love outdoorsy guys these days. And nz is a great place to be outdoorsy. Take up skiing and kayaking and get a cool hatchback car that allows for a rack to put your cool stuff on top.

Or drive a van around because it's free. That's fine too. Don't spend your money just to get a girl. Spend your money to enrich your life with things that add to it, and if you find a girl who wants to be part of that, even better.

Boom.
Chicks.

Thanks guys for all your advice.

1. Yes Dr. Jones I do play the guitar but haven't been for the last couple of years but might pick that up again.

2. I already own a company van (thanks Saint Cy of JFC), that I've been driving around the last 6 years, hence wanting something a bit different. It's got our company logo on it, not exactly a chick magnet.

3. I'm not an outdoor adventure person at all (sorry b_line), I do like to drive out of town and check out different towns and sceneries though so this new car will likely come in handy for that as I want to travel in style rather than driving around the company van for that. Also likely to be staying hotels/motels rather than camping...

4. Like str8line said to me a car is more than just getting from point A to point B (otherwise the current company van would suffice), hence the thinking about upgrading, I think it offers a lot of intangibles.

But yes I think all this has given me lots to think about. Maybe I should get a 5 seater sedan, but then I don't see myself carrying that many people and not planning to have kids anytime soon.

With the feedback I got so far seems like the Golf GTI is definitely out, doesn't tick enough of the boxes. The Merc somebody mention will make me look too much like a douche? So I think that's out. I think it's down to either the Audi TT or a 5-seat sedan right now (@Ron_Mexico's suggestion I think). The 5-seater option is actually a bit cheaper, so I'm definitely considering that too. Maybe I'll settle somewhere between and get a sporty version of the 5-seater.

If you don't like the outdoors, then what do you like about the indoors??

You gotta be really into something.. how about cooking?

I like the outdoors so far as going to the springs & enjoying outdoor hot pools... light trekking and mountain biking, sightseeing, ... but still saying in a hotel/motel, I'm a creature of comfort. So because of that I don't know if I need a jeep or a 4WD type car?

Cool.

I'm just exploring who "you" are from a woman's perspective.. except I'm not a woman, but still.

What makes you fun?
What makes you adventurous?

That's how it starts.
It's MUCH later that they care about security and safety.

Ah, ok, I'm a city person first and foremost being born and raised in a big city. So I'm probably not the most adventurous person. In the big cities, I thought girls are more drawn to guys who seem to 'have it' and can take them to fancy restaurants, take them shopping, go to the cinema, go clubbing, dinner by the sea, etc? That's who I'm targeting at the moment, not so much the adventurous types. Hence the type of cars I'm targeting.

But of course in the weekend I'd also like to drive them out to sightseeing, etc. Not full on camping & 3-5 days trekking, but more like driving around visiting farmers' market type thing.

IMO.. of what I know of you.. you desire a woman that is more simple and loves you more than your things. It's a paradigm shift, possibly.
