"using your expiring assets to add depth to the squad rocks the boat too violently and may destroy our delicately balanced beamed cakk bakk" - me

Posted this on reddit as well, but this part:

"Here in Utah, we've seen it too many times. Draft the good player, watch him become a great player, and then watch him leave in free agency."

Isn't true. Unless you count Malone in the final year of his career, or Millsap who we willingly let walk, we've never lost a great player to FA.

Wes Mathews and Carlos Boozer say hello.

Should have done this a month ago and ran it in April. May? Jazz will likely be out of playoffs by then and Hayward will be sitting on some beach somewhere. He certainly won't be driving to the practice facility.

I'll give you another wet willy if you leave Utah.

Deron was 100% going to walk. So technically you're right, but he was gone.

Just curious, what happens if the guy doesn't get the $5k? Does he walk away with a cool $4.5k to go buy some del taco with?

I'm sorry, but you really think a billboard would sway his decision? I'm sure it's all about basketball and money for him. I'm pretty confident he isn't going anywhere. Why leave the great team you have helped build? That makes no sense at all. If others can't see that the Jazz will be an elite team next year, that's too bad. I'm glad Hayward will have a lot more insight than you ;)

I feel like these sorts of stunts rarely work out and are usually ominous indications of what's going to transpire

This "Stay" business is the exact small market horse **** mindset that made Shaq leave Orlando, LeBron leave Cleveland, and Durant leave OKC.

Tread lightly mis amigos. Desperation is more repellent than money is enticing.

And by the way. It. Never. Works.

We didn't match Matthews RFA offer. That was a mistake but the Jazz chose to let him leave.

I was glad to see boozer leave when he did. His career was a steady downhill after he left. I'm not sure Jazz really tried to retain him but maybe they did. It seems they put in a half effort just to appease fans or other players with no intentions of bringing him back.

Would reverse psychology work? Billboard should say "Goodbye" instead?

I get your point, but I got confused when you called it "Small market" and then used LA as your example.

Out of all the possible variables, you've surely hit the nail on the head with the common denominator.
