What's new

The Jazz have acquired the 13th pick and select Donovan Mitchell

This guy sounds like he's chomping at the bit to get after it. He wants to get to work, is excited to be here, and seems pretty smart. A Jazz player for sure.

What did Chad Ford grade Utah?
Can anyone post his post here

A-

The Jazz got Mitchell in for a courtesy workout (agents often bring in a player to work out with a team outside their draft range to get the jitters out) and fell in love. They were working all draft to figure out how to get him. The cost, the No. 24 pick and Lyles, was worth it.

His ability to defend both backcourt positions, run the point, shoot the 3 and get to the rim makes him very attractive to the Jazz, who see him as being a potential starter someday.

Bradley was another guy they coveted for his length and rebounding ability. They needed a player who could eventually back up Rudy Gobert, and Bradley has enough talent to do that.

I'm less thrilled with Williams-Goss. He's a consummate playmaker but a poor athlete who will struggle to defend his position.

I'm watching his videos and it seems like he's a more athletic version of George Hill to me, obviously a worse shooter though. Is that a terrible comparison?
All I know is what I've seen in highlight vids. He looks a lot like Wade with similarities. Not saying he will be as good, but both are combo guards, athletic, play bigger then they are, great footwork creating space for pull-up J's, bulldog mentality on defense. I think he's a better shooter coming out then Wade
What cracks me up about this pick/trade is that a big bulk of this board was on Lyles jock like no other for the couple years he was here. Now all of a sudden everyone's like "yeah, Lyles is garbage!". The guy has always been a fringe player at best and we really screwed up not picking Myles Turner in that draft.

Mitchell has a real shot at being a key player for us a lot sooner than people realize. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people.

What a difference a draft makes.
I was in the we need to be patient with Lyles he showed he could be very good as a rookie, I still remember how good he was vs Cle. He played with a lot of fire that night with the jazz not having Hayward. I will say it was quite alarming his attitude he showed this year. He was in the proverbial fetal position all year. I remember his rookie year, I thought his shot was going in everytime he shot a three, and was aggressive driving and hitting floaters and dunks. This last year it was like he forgot he could do those things.
Brewer was a pretty solid contributer for a number of years. iirc he may have even been a starter. (Can't remember)
He was a starter, he was taylor made for our offense, Williams got him sooooo many easy dunks and layups. After he was traded, he was never heard from again. I liked him, and sorry things didn't work out for him after he left.

Chad Ford gave the Nuggets a "C" for their draft grade.

It makes me extremely happy knowing OG went a pick right before them especially knowing they were considering him at 13.

I also would have been very sad if we stayed at 24 and thought we had a chance at him falling to have him taken at 23.

The hilarious thing is that the Jazz were going to take Tony Bradley at 24.

A very underrated thing here is Mitchell wants to be here. He was walking off the stage and saw that he was traded to Utah and fist-pumped. That's ****ing amazing.

Most draft picks say nice things about the team that picked them but I actually believe Mitchell when he says good things about the Jazz and Utah.

His dad is the public relations coordinator for the Mets, or something like that.

Yeah, but you can tell if a kid is faking it... he is pouring it on a little, but at least he is smart enough to take coaching.

It's the difference between like Leaf and Donovan... I believe Donovan... Leaf seemed scripted.

Lyles was never the answer. You cannot win vs at high level with this sort of defense. Dante still has a chance IMO. I think he's buying in(at least all reports are that he is) and I expect a big step forward from him next year.

I believe there to be a big question mark over Lyles' defense moving forward - but next to Gobert I was prepared to give it a real go.

I can honestly see the guy being an elite offensive player. He has all the tools.

what are his weaknesses?

He looks great on highlight reel but you know. it never tells anything

He looks explosive tho. love it
