What's new

The Jazz have acquired the 13th pick and select Donovan Mitchell

I think he is a good defender and underrated offensive player. He is just 3pt shooting consistency away from being an all star caliber player. I see him as a downsized Kawhi. Or poor mans Wade. And i wont be surprsied if he turns out to be the top 5 players of the draft in long run.
His 3pt% went from 25% his freshman year to 35% sophomore year and 40% in the post-season. He's got some beef on his body and a big booty. He is going to be the most athletic player on the Jazz since...who? That one handed alley-oop catch and jam was massively impressive. Plays strong defense, with his freaky wingspan throwing defenders off when they gauge just of his 6'3 height not his 6'10 span. This is a guy who will affect the game even when his shot isn't falling, unlike Trey.

NOOO w egave up to early on lyles!

I do think Lyles can still be a good NBA player. In his rookie season he showed potential. I don't think that was a fluke. But it's like DL said, to get something you have to give something. I think the Jazz coaching staff and management determined that Lyles just wasn't right for US. If he blows up for Denver so be it. We got a great prospect that may fit us better with Mitchell back in return.

I think that's pretty much what sold DL and Q on him. Pretty much the guys reads as an already elite defender with a quirky shot selection. But that can be fixed. Not to mention that he wants to be here? We saved a bit to cap space to boot. And he want to work?

Who did DL roger to get this kid?

I would probably call him the 'Anti-Trey-Burke'.

He doesn't have a custom fitted suit. He doesn't have a flashy tie. He doesn't have a flashy haircut. But boy is he ready to get his hands dirty and work his butt off and put his body on the line for the team. I don't think I can remember the last time Trey played defense, but this guy's gonna play defense from day 1. He's a no nonsense blue collar PG and let's see where he can take us.

I think he could probably grow into a 'Patrick Beverley with an off the dribble game'.

Well there goes my theory of Lyles and Exum being the key to taking the next 3 steps.

Lyles was never the answer. You cannot win vs at high level with this sort of defense. Dante still has a chance IMO. I think he's buying in(at least all reports are that he is) and I expect a big step forward from him next year.

Remember and own this post.

OK. I never said I don't hope he turns out to be great or that it's always possible he overcomes the deficiencies. But the word was his athleticism got him drafted this high but his size and offensive limitations kept him from the top 10. How many people who lauded the Burke pick "owned" that failure?

Got know who else wasn't flashy and played pretty solid D from the get go? Brewer.

What cracks me up about this pick/trade is that a big bulk of this board was on Lyles jock like no other for the couple years he was here. Now all of a sudden everyone's like "yeah, Lyles is garbage!". The guy has always been a fringe player at best and we really screwed up not picking Myles Turner in that draft.

Mitchell has a real shot at being a key player for us a lot sooner than people realize. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people.

What a difference a draft makes.
