What's new

The Jazz have acquired the 13th pick and select Donovan Mitchell

I would probably call him the 'Anti-Trey-Burke'.

He doesn't have a custom fitted suit. He doesn't have a flashy tie. He doesn't have a flashy haircut. But boy is he ready to get his hands dirty and work his butt off and put his body on the line for the team. I don't think I can remember the last time Trey played defense, but this guy's gonna play defense from day 1. He's a no nonsense blue collar PG and let's see where he can take us.

I think he could probably grow into a 'Patrick Beverley with an off the dribble game'.

He's not a PG. He's certainly not the same type player as Beverley.

OK. I never said I don't hope he turns out to be great or that it's always possible he overcomes the deficiencies. But the word was his athleticism got him drafted this high but his size and offensive limitations kept him from the top 10. How many people who lauded the Burke pick "owned" that failure?

I repeat, what size limitations?

Got know who else wasn't flashy and played pretty solid D from the get go? Brewer.
Brewer was a pretty solid contributer for a number of years. iirc he may have even been a starter. (Can't remember)

What cracks me up about this pick/trade is that a big bulk of this board was on Lyles jock like no other for the couple years he was here. Now all of a sudden everyone's like "yeah, Lyles is garbage!". The guy has always been a fringe player at best and we really screwed up not picking Myles Turner in that draft.

Mitchell has a real shot at being a key player for us a lot sooner than people realize. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people.

What a difference a draft makes.
Miles turner was not available silly.

That's weird.. I don't really remember very much of us being high on Lyles. That's why we love the trade so much.

- We got positive value for Lyles
- We traded into the lottery of a loaded draft
- We drafted our guy we wanted from the start
- We saved money doing it
- Most of us thought 24 and Lyles could get us at most 18 from Indiana

This was such a good move and such a savvy move by DL.

Don't get it twisted, I'm ecstatic about what DL did for us in the draft this year. Very excited to say the least. But I also don't have selective memory about Lyles. Prior to this season where he really crashed and burned most on here were all about him and how he could and should potentially replace Favors.

This isn't true. In fact, the majority of posters on the board wanted Turner, were pissed when Pacers won the coin toss, and were even more pissed when they selected Turner. The general consensus on the board was a 'trying-to-psych-ourselves-up' malaise with the Lyles pick. Most of the comments were in the line of: "After watching the videos, I guess my initial fears were a bit tempered." Hell, even David Locke had to put in an extra set of Energizer batteries into his leg to get Jazz fans hyped on Twitter, and even then no one was really buying it.

Trey Burke everyone should say their mea culpas over. And maybe for Exum too, though I was a believer then and I'm still a believer now - kid is going to be huge next year. But Lyles? There weren't many who were truly excited for him.

LOVE the move for Mitchell, sound excellent move. Over 40 inch vertical with 6'10 wingspan?

Not questioning this one, the other move they're going to have to do some explaining why not stay pat at 30.

Perhaps not on draft night, but that's not what I'm referring to. Lots of people here were all about him and his "potential" to be the stretch 4 we coveted after the fact and continued to do so up until his inevitable fall from the rotation.

Totally subjective question, but where would Mitchell go in a normally takented draft? Is he top 10 type talent?
