Summer League Notes And Discussion

I really like griffin.
Hope he gets a legit shot at making the jazz roster.

Would be a good fourth big.

But Donovan is self aware. He has mentioned shot selection. i think he is experimenting a little more right now. I see what you are saying, but don't think it will be as big of an issue with Donovan.

Yep, Mitchell did mention shot selection was an issue. It wouldn't fly with last years plodding jazz, but I'm wondering if Quinn will open it up a little and let 'em run now that Haywood has taken his talents to Boston.

Spider-Man v Green Goblin

Here's a story about two young men who both came from relative obscurity to be thrust into the fight between good and evil.

One is a scrawny kid from the Midwest who was cultivated in the mountains until he became a fully developed, muscular "super hero" almost unrecognizable from his former self. And just as he reached the pinnacle of his strength, he turned against his people and joined the dark side, the green side. He became the green goblin.

The other is a polite young guy from the East Coast. Not considered an NBA prospect out of high school, he was bitten by a spider which gave him super powers, namely an ability to play defense with all 8 arms and legs and shoot himself directly to the rim from anywhere inside the foul line. He became spider man.

And so Spider Man and the Green Goblin took their sides, waiting for the day that they could battle over the fate of the NBA...

Dante Exum showed some real progress. He needs more strength and consistency, but if he gets 20 mins/night or more at PG (basically, Mack's minutes), he should be ready in another year.

I just watched the game. I love how 6'3" Mitchell is bullying 6'9" Tatum throughout the game and then baiting him into committing fouls right after putting him on his ***. Beautiful.

For what it's worth - the shot selection from Donovan has been very questionable to say the least. He has the tendency to take shots early in the shotclock that are not good shots and he takes a ton of very hard shots. He's a bit like the jump-shooting version of Alec Burks offensively... only Alec takes them at the rim. Both lead to very spectacular finishes, but are not good for the long-term efficiency of the player.

Yeah, but look who he's playing with. Coaches are probably letting him run a little loose to see what he can do. It's similar to Trey Lyles last year. When he's playing next to Rubio, Gobert and real shooters, he'll pick his spots better and figure out where he'll be successful. This Summer League is only slightly more organized that pick-up ball.

His body needs a ton of work. I see no difference over the years.
