Jazz Sign Ekpe Udoh

Seems like $3.25M per year is a lot for a guy who has not been in the NBA for two years and when he was, he was trade filler and a 12th man. I would rather have Jeff Withey on a vet minimum deal.

Jazz are going to use their bench to the extreme this year after having last season derailed by injuries. I wouldn't put it past them to use all 17 guys as much as they're able to. Adding Sefalosha allows Hood and Jingles to spend more time at the 2. Adding Jerebko allows Favors and JJ to limit their minutes until the playoffs. Adding Udoh allows Bradley and Bolomboy to spend most of the season with the Stars getting significant playing time instead of just riding the bench.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

I guess we will find out when the season begins. I hope I am wrong and Ekpe proves that he deserves to play real minutes in the NBA. His previous track record shows otherwise. After being drafted #6 overall, he never played 82 games, never averaged over 5 points or 4 rebounds, never played more than 20-min per, etc. His last season in the NBA with the Clippers, he played 33 games and averaged under 4 minutes. For a 1/3 of the price, Withey or a dozen guys like him could have the same impact. I hope Ekpe used his time overseas to become a better player. Is he the next Hassan Whiteside-type story? I hope.

He polished his game with Fenerbahçe. What I like about him is he's not a tweener, he plays solid, solid defense he can shoot and he does have some nice footwork in the post as well. I don't know if they'll play him at 4 or 5 but whatever position it is the other Jazz big on the floor with him is going to appreciate this guy

Jazz going Moneyball with their approach to free agency after Hayward left.

I really like the direction they're heading, and I'm happy with every acquisition this offseason. Mitchell, Bradley, Rubio, Jingles, Sefalosha, Jerebko and Udoh. Hustle, energy, rebounds and defense. Love it. Feels like the kind of guys that will love to play with Rudy.

People are constantly swearing at me...
Some of my friends already started drinking at 1 pm because their hero Ekpe is gone :( :(

By the way he's not the highest paid player in europe

DeColo is the highest paid player right?

OMG what an amazing two days. Just when it looked like the Jazz were ready to stand pat and play the lottery game - THIS. I honestly think that on paper we're a much better team than we were last season. I like every signing. But there are a whole slew of new faces and we can't assume it will just happen overnight. That makes fifteen guys under contract. Got no trouble with Withey and Diaw getting walking papers as long as Bradley is securely in the fold. Had high hopes for NWG as well, hope he gets stashed overseas at least.

Losing Hayward and Hill hurts, but adding Rubio and keeping Jingles helps to lessen the sting. Upgrading Withey, Diaw, Mack and Lyles with Udoh, Jerebko, Mitchell and Sefalosha was awesome. The Jazz bench are going to harass opposing teams.
