I feel awful for hayward....that leg break...

Don't teams take out insurance on contracts?

It's more about salary cap space. That's a max contract that is giving you nothing and threatens to become an albatross if he doesn't recover. Injuries like this generally take 2 years to fully recover from. Paul George never regained all of his athleticism.

Some of the responses in this thread are disappointing and show a lack of basic human empathy. It's not that hard to still think Hayward was a snek during the process, and feel bad for his foot basically detaching from his leg. IT's a traumatic thing for him and his family, and when I see a human being suffering it makes me feel bad for them. He'll certainly be fine in the long run even if he can never play basketball again, but empathy is not some zero sum game where the amount depends on the person's financial situation, or feeling it for somebody somehow changes other things they have done or your feelings for those previous acts.

I told my gf I hoped he got injured this year last night completely tongue-in-cheek (I have a dark sense of humor) and now I feel absolutely terrible. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, really. I hope it's not too bad. Dude had to get flighted to another hospital.

Let the blaming commence!

Way to go, Archie Moses.

There are some strange remarks talking about if he'll ever play again.
Of course he will play again, and probably this season.
One of the things I loved about Hayward was his lack of injury. He was steady, and consistent.

Hayward is set for life. There is no sorrow for that man. I saw both good, and bad things about him. This is just another life test for him, but he's fine.
All the prayers and over the top sympathies are a bit much.

That's probably against the odds. 1-2 year recovery most likely.

Yesterday I was blunt, perhaps even cynical, about Hayward's injury. As a fan, I won't apologize. His handling of his free agency was poor to say the least.

That said, today, for the first time, I watched the play on a big screen. Last night, I only saw it on my phone as I was putting my son to sleep. Having now seen it though on a tv, like most everyone else, I'll say, it was gruesome. Just absolutely awful. I have no idea why the pass was thrown or why he jumped for it (as he's not THAT athletic) or why he didn't sort of brace himself or look where he was landing since he was in traffic, but that doesn't matter. It was awful and Hayward seems like a guy who busts his butt perhaps harder than anyone to improve his body and his craft. Year over year he's improved. I think he truly plays to win and so it stinks. He also seems like a pretty solid human being and decent family man. From everything we know about him anyway. Is he a little bit of a loner, and could he have handled free agency better? Yes, of course. But he's human. All of us are. We are imperfect creatures who on most days make bad decisions. And once we do, we sometimes feel uncomfortable and aren't sure how to handle it. This compounds the problem. And we've all done this. Many a time in life. Sure, Hayward had handlers to help him with the free agency process and yes he had years to think about exactly how to handle it. But that doesn't change the fact that decisions can be tough and not always handled well.

Because we're human. All of us. And so as a human being, I feel guilty about my tone yesterday. And I want to apologiE for that while also acknowledging how mature nearly everyone here was. More mature than me, that's for sure. And I'm proud of that.

Many here used the word karma yesterday. And I'm not typing this for karmatic reasons but I think we really could be in store for some good karma based on how collectively well we responded to Hayward's injury yesterday.

So good job, guys. I'm proud to be a Jazz fan.

Let's ****ing go.

That one looked horrific :( Hope for full and speedy recovery.

It's no secret I really wanted and predicted the Celtics and Hayward would fail with their new team, but not like this... not like this. Sad.

Hope he recovers quickly.

In other news, I guess we'll find out who is better, the Hayward-less Celtics or the Hayward-less Jazz.

Kyrie's role will be different for sure as they lost their other top scorer. I think the Jazz are better "injury insured" than Boston and have a more balanced squad but it will be a close call, the Jazz being in the west and Boston in the east.

I can say with a very high-degree of certainty that Donovan Mitchell will outplay Hayward this year. #takenote

That's one of the first things I thought when I got over watching the injury.

What the **** was up with that entire play? I can only guess someone missed a back-screen on Crowder. LeBron read the play all the way. The "lob" (if it even was a lob) was awful and should have never been thrown in the first place.

You never saw that **** in Utah....just sayin..

There's a lot of talk on here about whether Gordon deserved this. Of course he didn't. But I don't think this has anything to with what Hayward deserved. It was a completely random event that is unfortunately a part of the game. I feel for Gordon and hope he gets back to 100%. That said, I am still pissed he left Utah and I assume he still has no regard for my feelings as a Jazz fan either.

Its still ok to despise the Character make up of Hayward and not feel bad for him. He screwed us over. Don't feel compelled to be PC. He is still #Coward #Bitchward and every other hashtag that came up. He is not dead. Lets get back to hating him.

You sound like the king who cut the baby in half to settle the argument over custody.
