What's new

Jazz @ Suns October 25th 8pm Mountain Time

I have to take my hat off to a couple of guys in this thread, lead by Yamers. I hadn't seen such an impressive amount of whining and overreacting in a long time. It takes real effort to sustain that level of b****ing for the whole game and become so annoying, so definitely kudos to them on a job well done.

As for the game, long story short: this team is still a work in progress, just like it was a week ago, and it's something to be expected with so many changes and just about one freaking week into the season.

- Ricky still hasn't found a rythm with the rest of his new teammates, the offense is not clicking yet and we're seeing way too many TOs that won't be there in the future. He's got by far the highest TOV% in his career, and that will revert over the next few weeks. This is a guy who's been top-5 in AST/TO ratio the last two seasons while always trying to thread the needle and being one of the top assist men in the league. No need to freak out.

- Rudy seems to be off to start the season and will have to get used to defenses focusing on him more than ever. He also hasn't asserted himself defensively as much as he's done in the past. His rebounding numbers (both per 48 minutes and in terms of REB%) are career lows right now, as are his blocks. He's also been pushed around a bit, doesn't seem to be fully engaged all the time and he's been a bit slow or soft here and there. But it'll come, nobody's fully comfortable right now and that's OK, it's understandable.

- Jingles needs to learn that having him strictly as a role player who takes a few 3-pts when absolutely open isn't an option right now. I think this is gonna be harderr to correct because that's who Joe has always been and it's probably a bit late in his career for him to become truly aggressive looking for his shot. It's difficult because of the lack of 3-pt threats in the starting unit, but if he's not shooting them he may need to come off the bench in the future, and cede the starting spot to someone who brings something different on offense.

- Hood has been on and off the team in these first few games and he hasn't really taken on that role as the first option for this team on offense. But his efficiency has been great thus far and he's put up 16 PPG in less that 26 minutes per contest. He can be that 20 PPG guy, he just needs to stay healthy, be assertive and realize that the shots are there for him to take.

- Mitchell is a rookie. He's got a grand total of 5 NBA games under his belt. Stop the nonsense. He needs to take the foot off the pedal a little bit and the TOs will start going down and the shots going in. Let's wait and see if there's development there a month into the season. For now his role shouldn't change, and it's not like the Jazz have so many options either.

- Quin will need to work on his rotations, but the thing I'd like to see the most is the team capitalizing on fastbreak opportunities, and that has to come from the coach. The Jazz have been doing well forcing TOs (7th in the league) and converting them into points (5th), but they're just in the middle of the pack when it comes to fastbreak points. Sure, the switch on defense means they haven't been so great thus far in terms of forcing the opponent to miss shots, and the rebounding has not been excellent either (they're just 15th in DREB%), but the opportunities are there. Snyder needs to have a guy who leaks a little bit when the other team shoots, and have everyone ready to give the ball to Ricky after the rebound so he can find the guy on the other and get some easy baskets (so far the only one who's done that is Ingles, but he's way too slow and most of those plays have ended in a TO or a missed shot at the rim. I'd like to see Hood or Mitchell be that guy). They also need to run the floor harder when there's a chance to score in transition. You don't have to run every single time, but right now they're taking too much time gathering themselves and getting to the other end. You have the perfect PG to take advantage of those situations, some wings and bigs than can run the floor, and the need to get some easy baskets every game. Use that.

- As for the front office, I think it's becoming clear that in addition to needing some more outside shooting, this team will have a hard time with Neto as the only back-up PG. Even if they don't want to look for a minor trade right now, there are a few FAs like Mo Williams (I'd rather see him back than D-Will) or Gary Neal that could handle some PG duties off the bench and even play along Neto while adding some much needed 3-pt shooting and scoring mentality, something the second unit is really lacking (especially when AB doesn't play at all).

I dont understand Quin's use of Mitchell and Burks tonight. We desperately needed offense and those 2 don't play in the 2nd half.

We sucked and he is the leader. Unacceptable preparation and management in this one.

Quin got outcoached. We were on a bit of a roll late. Instead of pounding it inside they settled for jumpers. Clank after clank and it was over. Favs had a mostly rough game but he was the best player in the 4th. Quin didn't ride him at all when the score was close.

If Quin does the head-**** to Donovan the way he did to Dante I'm gonna be so pissed.

Jazz offense is going to be average at best until they get someone who can consistently get to the FT line and penetrate the paint to score.

So basically, the Jazz offense relies completely on the development of Donovan Mitchell. Could be a while.

You seriously don't think Exum was heading in that direction?

That's how this forum has always been.

If the Jazz win, they're going to win the championship.
If they lose, trade half the team.
Probably how most forums are tbh

I think it's time to think Gobert is not going to be a 18/20 ppg scorer this year.Favors is healthy and getting up and down the court .Jazz should think about gearing up the offense between Hood and Favors and let Rudy concentrate on rebounds and defense.

Turnovers. No need to over analyze this one.

I enjoyed Tuesday night's game, last night, nope.

Favors is soft as ****. No swagger.

after a night to sleep on it I've consolidated my take-aways from this game to this: Dennis O'Lindsey should lock his doors at night when Quin gets back from road trips.

Two years ago he dealt Quin a crappy hand when he failed to get a veteran pg or other veteran players.
Last year he did okay.
This year he tried, and maybe his plans were scrambled when Betrayward took 10-days to type out his feelings, but the team Dennis gave Quin was faulty even before the Exum injury.

Last night was a bad shooting night, and that will happen, but TOVs are absolutely killing us. Rubio is still familiarizing so I expect his to come down a bit (same with Mitchell), but Rudy needs to stop trying to do everything and just make the simple play. He's great because he's the absolute best at the basics, him trying to do too much is holding the team back.

This team really needs a stretch 4 tho. Joe Johnson hasnt been that this year as he has been ice cold on his 3's and is now passing them up in favor of more difficult Iso-Joe style shots.

Interesting. You might be right. I bet his mindset going into this season was to improve offensively but with us going through the pains of familiarizing ourselves with each other he might be trying to do it at the wrong time. He's had to try to catch bad passes over and over lately and then try to do something with them when the play has already fallen apart. It also seems like his hands aren't as good at last year. Maybe it's a confidence thing.

Yeah, the team as a whole needs to work on pulling the trigger on catch and shoot 3's. The Joes especially.

Yeah, he passed on some shots last night for sure. Lots of one on one for our team last night overall and those young Suns kids were ready for a one-on-one game.
