The refereeing in the Lakers game

When you're at the game, as I was, you get a much better look at what is happening on the court, and I have to say, as some others in the stands remarked, it seemed as if the officials were trying to give the game to the Lakers. There were a number of questionable and non-calls, some which the replays showed that the referees got them wrong, and almost all were in the Lakers favor. Fortunately, Mitchell came out of nowhere to take over the game and put away the officials' interference

Pretty sure it's to cover the spread. Not surprisingly, there is some shady mother ****ers in NBA officiating.

When you're watching the game on DVR, as I was, you get to fast forward much of what is happening, and I have to say, as other on the internet have remarked, it seems the Jazz won the game by 15 points. There were a number of questionable moments, some of which I watched, when the Jazz were not up by as much as they eventually won by, and it seemed like the momentum was in the Lakers favor. Fortunately, Mitchell came out of nowhere to take over the game and put away my doubts.

Dude! You were AT the game, as you were? You should make a thread about something so that you can drop it that you were AT THE GAME!

I don't subscribe to any conspiracy theories or purposeful misconduct from the referee's though clearly we have all have human bias. If I thought the game was being tampered with I would have no interest in following the NBA or the Jazz. That being said, I thought it was one of the most poorly officiated games I have seen in a long time. Very bad.

So only because you went to the game, this came as a revalation to you? Was that the first NBA game you ever watched (live or on TV)?

I wonder if he had sweet seats, in a great section. Inquiring minds want to know!!

Meh... it was not the greatest game by officials but nothing too extra special or biased against the Jazz. They made few bad calls - at the end it did not affect the game result. Lets move on.

I think you're missing the point of the thread, EM was AT THE GAME!

Yeah kind of how I felt. Was glad that Snyder lost it... he needs to do that imo... the nice guy gets walked all over sometimes ya know.

Glad he lost it but he lost it on a correct call. Was he yelling, "****ing ********!" at the refs? The two nine-year-olds up front got a little experience. Was a little worried about Quin having a stroke.

First off, I haven't seen Quin get that mad since he has been coach of the Jazz. I don't think I have missed a single game.

Second, if there is any interest by the league to boost the performance of any team... the Lakers and now would be it. The Lakers are looking to get Lebron and an LA/BronBron connection is good for biz. Follow the money my friends. And if you don't believe that the NBA has ever conspired to mess with the results in the league then you are kidding yourselves. See Youtube, lottery, knicks pick ewing and look at the 'bent lottery card' and the deep stressed sigh. Sheesh. Tampering has existed. It's good for business.

Finally, my theory is that officials have opinions on teams and players that create bias during games. There were moments in the game that I was feeling like we were on the wrong end of calls, but any team without an all star will face that. The Jazz were the brunt of bad calls 2 of the last 3 years. This year I fear will make it 3 of 4 imho. Don't recall? Look back and 2014 and 2015 before Gordon was an all star. Think about Dennis Lindsey sending in the report to the league at the end of 2015. We finally got respect from officials in 2016 and then... we lost Gordon. I fear we are back to 2014/2015 status folks. Hopefully our defense establishes itself and we get a reputation among the officials or we will be the brunt of a lot of crap calls.

We agree on the bias and the all-star treatment. That will always be the case and we enjoyed the benefits during the Stockton and Malone era. As for tampering, I don't doubt that it has happened. However, if it is the norm and happens on an ongoing basis, it is the same as saying the few teams who will make the finals are predetermined. If I believed that I would not watch another game. And I dont think it is good for the leagues. So I guess you can seesh me again. I guess WWE has fans but not my cup of tea and I think it eliminates fans with any degree of intelligence

Nah, this isn't an isolated situation with one or two bad eggs. The shady mother ****er's name is Adam Silver.

I've mentioned this a hand full of times already, but the officiating since he took over has been as bad as the worst Stern years. At least this year he seems to be going after GS, which is great. If he keeps them from repeating, I'll be all aboard the Silver Shady Ship.

I don't think games are fixed, though. The officials get paid to influence games in one direction or another, and there are multiple agendas involved. Lots of times it's just to help the home team get some wins so they don't completely run out of fans to buy tickets. Other times, the agenda may be to keep records close at the end of the year so games mean more, and the NBA is more interesting. Whatever it is, I believed this for years under Stern, and then things got better after the Kings/Lakers debacle. Then they changed back again when Silver took over.

That's why you have to have a team that believes they can win, even when the officials are against them, much like the spurs. No doubt this has caused Gobert some issues at times, and this year seems to be starting out poorly. Last year he managed to adjust, so hopefully he will again this year.
