Exum Update

This is great... for those saying Rubio = Exum... Just no.

I'm not a huge Exum believer, but was encouraged by his summer league and he is still quite young. His timeline now lines up perfectly with our squad... before that was an issue.

He gets wherever he wants on the court and creates a lot of separation. Rubio doesn't do that. He can throw lob passes... Rubio can't. Rubio does a lot of things better than him, but the big issue is Rubio can't shoot or finish at the rim. I believe Dante will be a better spot up shooter (he almost has to) and a better finisher... the thing with him is penetrating and getting separation.

Exum and DM45 tore up summer league together, they had natural chemistry, I'm almost fine with a tank. Let's see if Neto can put up 40

Lol sure
All indications were his shooting was improved and on the way toward league average perhaps this year

It’s a bummer after 3 1/2 yrs that it’s still an unknown what he’ll end up being. Still have high hopes for an Exum/Mitchell tandem being really good

All indications from the last half of last season were Rubio's shot was improved. How'd that work out?

not even close to the same Rubio has a long long body of work to indicate his shooting is atrocious. He had a hot streak of 4-6 weeks after the all star break last year which was clearly an outlier. Exum was something like 43 / 35 shooting post all star break and then continued to shoot well in summer league and preseason.

If you want to get into more specifics of the actual shots Rubio's is kind of broken. He shoots it too flat, has a little hesitation/hitch, and isn't balanced. Exum's form in summer league and preseason looked solid, his funky release had been cleaned up quite a bit, and he was shooting it very confidently. So it's pretty easy to think that Exum after finally having a summer to really hone his craft after all the injuries is much more likely to improve than Rubio.

That being said I think any player can fix their shot with enough work. Rubio really needs to overhaul his shooting form which is a big process at this stage in his career. Exum just needed to tweak it a little bit.

The biggest difference between Exum and Rubio will not be their shooting, it will be Exum's ability and willingness to go to the rim(hopefully).

Exum's drive and kick projects to be light years ahead of Rubio. Rubio's midrange game is something Exum will never have. I'm OK with that.

I wonder how much stress and anxiety Rodney and Dante are under trying to show-off for that big contract. That much money on the line could really mess with a guys head.
