Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Which is why holding onto Hood is more of a gamble than trading him. It just takes one ******** team and you're suddenly deciding whether Rodney Hood's 55 games a year is worth $75 million or you let him walk.

For the same price, it's easily Fournier for me.

I don't agree. Once he expires, an offer can be made. I just wouldn't do it at 17M per year. Money is so tight we should be able to sign him or some other average sg for 8-11M per year. Money will be that tight imo. In contrast, trading him just to trade him and to get another, in theory, better "asset" doesn't sit well with me. Fournier doesn't appear to be even close to a game changer for the franchise. He's been a perennial loser and in fact is probably just good enough to boost us to annual 42-47 win range, aka mediocrity, tying up cap space in the process, and doing really nothing more than hurting our draft position.

And if someone does offer Hood 4 for 75M, that's an easy decision to make. Let him walk and **** up someone else's cap.

Matthews, Bradley, Ariza, KCP, sweet Lou, Tyreke, Stephenson, Ellington, Hezonja, Beasley interest me in ways far more than bringing back Hood for another four years and seeing the same old ****. Not all play the same position, I realize that. But most should be far cheaper than the 17M thrown around here and most bring greater intangibles, toughness, consistency and/or upside to the table imo. In short, let the market play itself out. Sign one of these guys on the cheap. It'd probably still be an upgrade. Draft well in 18 and 19. Then crush FA in 2019.

stay as far away from bradley as possible

Every year people underestimate how much money will be available in free agency. Teams are going to clear cap space. Someone is going to throw a big offer Hood's way.

mirotic has not exactly lit it up the last few games. There is no way I give them a first round pick.

That's who he's been his whole career. Would be silly to think he automatically became a star at age 27. I think Chicago would be laughing all the way to the bank (er, draft) if someone gave them a moderately high first for him.

I'm ready for this crap to be over. Even if we sit on our hands (as depressing as that sounds).

If someone clears cap space, that means someone else has taken it on.

Which doesn't mean that there are necessarily any fewer teams with cap space, and more importantly, it's not so much about the number of teams with cap space as it is one team having enough and wanting Hood.

I understand that. His point was that there would be more. There won’t. Clearing cap space only gives more salary to another team leaving the number of teams equal.

As far as one team wanting Hood, so be it. Let a team overpay for him. The guy has been our worst defensive player this year and is wildly inconsistent on offense. Why the hell do we care if someone is foolish enough to pay him 17M per?
