Can Exum be fixed?

Something I haven't seen talked about with the Exum situation is that we are trying to have a ton of cap space in 2019... but Rubio's caphold would need to be waived or his contract situation would need to be resolved. I don't know what our PG situation is or what Ricky's value would be on the open market. He doesn't fit the mold for a lot of teams.

So would you extend Ricky and Exum? or one or the other? I think because of fit and culture Ricky would be inclined to stay even if it wasn't maxing out his market value. I'm not sure we keep both long-term.

We could keep Exum and waive Ricky's cap hold (22.5M) sign whatever max guy we are after and then use the remaining cap space on Ricky.

But in all seriousness, I think he's gonna be fine. We are all getting ridiculously spoiled by Donovan, but remember that young players often struggle in the playoffs. Dante is only a year older than Donovan (who is clearly a freak in his maturity beyond his years). Compounded with him still getting back into a rhythm from his return from injury, Exum's struggles in the last seven games shouldn't be all that surprising.

I agree that's the best defense the Jazz played on Harden the entire game. But he really only was put on him the once and I think it was off of a switch.

Do we know other players with amazing potential based on physical attributes but who needed fixing which actually got fixed and turned into stars? CJ Miles? Kirk Snyder? Burks? Saer Sene? DeShawn? Kris Humphries? Gerald Green?....we of course have Gianis as example but I think the odds that Exum will follow his path is very slim.

Giannis was a basketball player when he came into the league, though.

The dude needs to play a lot in regular season games as well as a couple of offseasons to make up the deficit of all the time he's missed. That may or may not be with the Jazz, but i think by the time he's 25-26 he's going to be a terrific player. The injuries have really screwed his timeline and development with Utah.

People judging what he is doing now against top flight teams are nuts. The dude needs to play a lot in regular season games as well as a couple of offseasons to make up the deficit of all the time he's missed. That may or may not be with the Jazz, but i think by the time he's 25-26 he's going to be a terrific player. The injuries have really screwed his timeline and development with Utah.

But my biggest problem with him is that even after 4 years with the Jazz he still is struggling to initiate the offence and run it on the fly. Even if he did not play he had tons of time to watch and memorise all theses sets - if he thinks about himself as a PG - he needs to pretty much be automatic with them. Now he just keeps dribbling the ball and has no clue what to do - huge difference in offensive flow when Neto comes in for example. Maybe he needs to change his mindset and become and 3 and D wing player with occasional ball handling duties only. Work on corner 3, mid range shooting and defense... give up a dream of being a point guard and instead focus of being just a wing.

He overdribbled badly against OKC, i thought it was noticeably better yesterday. It is pretty frustrating watching when you can see him thinking too much. I don't see him as that 3 and D player tho, i still think eventually he's a combo.

I remember watching that possession thinking...Exum could be the best perimeter defender on the team.

If only he played like that every play.

I doubt he will be anywhere near his level and they are just different players but at least put in a picture when they are the same age.

I dont think they are far off physically at the same age as this picture is as of Pippen. Although I doubt Exum gets as strong and large as Pippen did mostly because their style of play and position is so different. It is also a different era of basketball that is less physical.
