Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Actually, if the Jazz had this version of Derrick Favors yesterday, it would have made a huge difference. I just wish Favs had more shooting touch.

Favors developing a legitimate 3pt shot is something I cant believe in. The guy has an inconsistent release.

He’s not a good FT shooter and people act like he’s just now started working on it... I think I remember him mentioning it two years ago.

I think his ceiling is that can be a 35% wide *** open 3 shooter from the corner. I don’t see a lot of value in that... if he is away from the basket he gets no offensive rebounds.

I love Favs but he kinda is what he is.

So in a perfect world, we'd have a 6'9" or 6'10" athletic stud who plays solid defense, rebounds, has enough IQ to move the ball in Quin's sets, and shoots from 3 levels better than Favors (although Favors is good at converting at the rim).

Yeah it’s a tall order but put Khris Middleton on this team in Favors place and we are right there with the contenders imo.

I want Collin Sexton running the second unit.

Probably my imagination, but it seems so hard to draft a stretch 4 these days. Such a crap shoot. And even less likely to contribute quickly. I’d rather just find one who we already know is good.

IF we’re giving up Favors, and I’m definitely not set on that. Then just get Tobias Harris, Aaron Gordon, etc. don’t try to draft his replacement. We can’t wait around and cross our fingers. Favors was better than Gobert in the playoffs. We’d be much worse just replacing him with a rookie, even if we found a way to get into the top 15 or so.

Read exactly one scouting report. But that Simons guy does seem like a dude our staff could do good things with. That upside that late in the draft is rare.

And he might actually be available at our pick. Unlike Sexton.

The Jazz need a few more players who can create their own shot when things break down in the playoffs. I like the Simmons kid a lot. I heard DM raving about him so I will take his word he is good.

I don't know if Rozier from Boston is a free agent, but he has really impressed me in the playoffs. He has upped his scoring, defense is great and seems to be around the ball all the time. Another Louisville guy so maybe DM can recruit him. He wouldn't mind being a back up since that is what he is with Boston but he has shown he can player starter minutes. THis is exactly what the Jazz need. Sorry but Raul Neto is a nice kid but he is a 3rd stringer on a championship team.

Jazz need to make a decision on Dante. I think a back court of Rozier and Dante would be awesome. If Rozier isn't available then draft Simmons. They can share the PG duties on the second team.

I love Joe INgles but the Jazz need to upgrade this position with Joe being our sixth man. He can be our PF when we go small.Crowder can also play this role if the Jazz can't find a replacement for JOe. I would look seriously hard at the draft for this position. I would use all assets to move up and grab a guy who the Jazz feel can be a starting SF in the league. Who that guy is? I will let all the draft experts figure it out.

I doubt that Derrick Favors will be back so this is another position that the Jazz need to upgrade big time. T. Harris is a guy who could do so. Don't know what he would cost but I think he would fit nicely with our system. Crowder could get minutes as his backup.

Rudy is our center. He has to continue to improve. Bradley should be his backup.

Backups should be Oneile and Thabo. They would get situational minutes and play depending on match ups and injuries.

I realize drafting for need is typically not a good idea but I keep wondering if Omari Spellman could be the guy to replace Favors, if necessary. He's a 4/5 similar to Favors but has shown the ability to shoot the three. He comes from a great program. Played against high level competition. I know Cy isn't real high on him but this is a guy I will be keeping my eye on. He should be available at 21 if he decides to stay in the draft.

Can you post Mitchell's comments about Simmons?

They should've put in an offer to Tobias Harris as a free agent years ago there was a few of us who were vehement bout this and understood he'd also serve as a form of insurance for Hayward's looming departure...

The asking price on Rozier (who i vouched for HEAVILY in that draftees thread - i was way ahead of DX in saying he's a 1st rd pick) will be far above what utah will be willing to part with, cuz the price is most certainly that of a good young starting PG.

Exum stays. I almost feel foolish for having to post why, the writing is most certainly on the wall. He's the type of player who saves you space on a depth chart. He's quite obviously got major room for impovement, which is a good thing.

As for SF's the one that you'll probably really like seeing as youre a fan of Tobias Harris is Kevin Knox, who's ooozing with potential and a 3/4 hybrid who's tough, can grab boards and create his own shot off the dribble, he's got a nice floater like a guard at 6'9 too. They'll need to pay a decent price to get in his range though surefire lotto pick.

Is Simmons your #1 guy who fits this mold?

No Collin Sexton is, but he's a possible top10 pick. Sexton unquestionably has the quickest 1st step in this draft and when his stepback jumper is on he presents a major pick your poison issue for the defense. He's easily the most gifted guard in this draft at scoring in transition too, makes all sorts of high speed acrobatic / contorted finishes with alarming success, he's far more polished and fiesty and strong/ready to contribute next szn than Simmons too, He's an inch or 2 shorter than simmons but has a similar wingspan.

The price for Sexton will be too high for Utah. He's one of the guards good enough that'll help a talent like Simmons get pushed down tho.

Understandable. I guess I should have clarified, is Simmons your #1 guy of someone who is projected to be available around our pick?

Appreciate your thoughts on both guys.

Simmons and Mitchell Robinson seem to be a tier(or two) above those projected in range when it comes to upside. If Simmons really develops i think he could start at PG. He reminds me of Jeff Teague but more like Lou Williams. If Robinson pans out and can play pf Utah's shotblocking would reach another level he's a hassan whiteside type of athlete.

I find their projection in that range to be ******** though at this point, maybe if they dont perform well in workouts and at the combine they fall that far... In those best case scenario's for Utah players like that would cost a lot of $$$.

@Saint Cy of JFC

I haven't watched a bit of college ball. What are your thoughts on Kevin Huerter?
I like him. Definitely one of the best shooters in the draft and does enough else well were you think he has a shot of sticking in the NBA. Last summer he measured 6'6 in shoes with a 6.75 wingspan. He seems bigger than that though. Definitely not inspiring measurements.

Lonnie Walker has a lot of potential to expand his game, imo. He's a good athlete, with good length for a 2-guard and the ability to spot up as well as create his own look off the dribble. Also a pretty rangy and tenacious defender for his size. He has a few of the better qualities of JR Smith and Iman Shumpert. Not sure if he can create for others, but he's got enough of a handle and body control that he could do some things off the dribble if he really wanted to. There's some real talent to work with there, and there's at least a snowball's chance that he'll fall to the late teens.
