Windhorst: If LeBron leaves, the Cavs will make Love available for trade

So what does everybody think LeBron is going to do? Where is he going? Is he staying? The next 3 plus weeks are going to take forever with the speculation.

It's impossible to say at this point. The only thing I'm sure of is that he's not staying in Cleveland. I think the Rockets, Lakers, Spurs, Sixers and Celtics are all possibilities but I have no idea who the frontrunner is. I don't care where he goes but for the Jazz sake I really hope he stays in the east.

its such an easier journey to the finals in the East. There has to be some hesitance there.

I'd take Love. Just wouldn't trade much for him and definitely not a first. Taking on his contract for two years just to see what Quin could do with a. 4 out lineup? Hell yeah.

Burks and filler is about all I'd offer, though. If the Cavs are serious about dumping, they can speed up their timeline by a year with that swap alone. Donovan would be transitioning to his RFA-max and Rudy would ideally be re-upping for another 3-4 years depending on how his level of play holds up. This is the IDEAL time to tinker with what fits around Donovan (yes, Donovan, not Rudy). I bet Quin would much rather have a more flexible lineup like the Rockets.. but who wouldn't?

I don't want this, but imagine if LeBron went to OKC. If PG leaves and Melo restructures his deal, they would be a minor move away from giving him the max. If he met the Warriors with KD's old team, man that would be entertaining.

Of course in the 2nd round of the playoffs while we are beating Houston on the other side.

Should have done 21 for mirotic

Having said that, I would trade a first for him.

Though what Wes said about his salary killing us for the next two years while we might not be ready to compete yet gives me pause.

But maybe love makes us ready to contend if we get lucky with our teams health and other teams get unlucky.

End of the day I would do a first for him

Would sort of love if Lebron went there and Kawhi left and went to Boston and then Boston beat the Spurs in the Finals.

Restructures his deal? This isn’t the NFL.

Jazz absolutely have to do this.
Couldn't think of a better fit. His defense as a 4 has seemingly improved and his spot minutes as a 5 will give the Jazz a totally different weapon

Regarding Love per se, he has interesting qualities. Sure he is not fully complementary with Gobert since he is a poor wing defender (well, poor defender overall really) and he is at his best at the elbow or rebounding the ball which would crowd the paint. But he is a great 3pt shooter, he is a very good offensive big man for some Pick and pop action at the 3 point line for exemple, etc...

Yet I wouldn't do it for one simple reason : the age/health fit is very bad for our team. Donovan is a stud but will be a soph next year. If he is really as good as he can be, on some Dwayne Wade type of level, he still needs a couple of years before we can hope for the holy grail. Meanwhile Love is reaching 30 and hasn't played more than 60 games the last 2 seasons... Add to that the cost, and I would pass.

If Favors leaves, which is likely, I would try to focus on acquiring a 4/5 able to play those 15 minutes per game for Rudy and further wing depth particularly at the 3/4 level.

Melo has a unique early termination $28 million expiring this coming year. He and the team could restructure something long term that gets him that money. Maybe something like $14 million a year for three years instead of next year for $28. He has said he wants to play with LBJ.

I hope that doesn't happen, but I prefer it to LeBron going to Boston, GS or Houston.

I really want LeBron to go to the Knicks and play pressure free for his remaining days.

Deal restructuring almost never occurs. I actually can't think of one off the top of my head.
