What's new

Chris Hardwick

Are you saying it's only rape if there is a conviction? Do you say that about any other crimes?

Did you get that from his post? Why is rape involved in this thread? Did Chris hardwick rape someone?

Chris Hardwick lost his job (at least temporarily) with AMC because of post on Medium by his ex-girlfriend. He's also been disowned by the company he founded, The Nerdist...

I'll preface this by saying I don't watch The Walking Dead or Hardwick's talk show. I've listened to parts of a couple of his podcasts - he's mildly amusing. I've never heard of Chloe Dykstra at all - although that's probably more of an indictment on me than it is on her.

By reading the link, and assuming it's 100% true, I've concluded the following.

Chris Hardwick is a selfish, dickhead
Chris Hardwick has serious control and self-esteem issues.
If I had a daughter I would not want her to date Chris Hardwick

That aside, I'm at a loss as to why anything happening to this guy at all? Dykstra said she was sexually assaulted by him and then goes on to describe something that's not even remotely sexual assault. Making the insinuation to your g/f that you'll break up with her if she doesn't have sex with you is not sexual assault. It's a dick move but it's not assault.

I'm willing to admit that I may be missing something, that's why I posted this. Please feel free to rip me apart if I'm out of touch - but I'm just not seeing it.

I think you nailed it right here the first post.

There’s more conclusive proof that it occurred, in general.

Both are obviously bad. I’m not defending either. But this girl knew what he wanted from the get go because he told her what he expected. Maybe she thought she could change him. Maybe she thought it was worth it for the fame. I don’t know. Seems like she could have left when she wanted, and eventually did.

Perhaps she was just vulnerable and in need of personal validation, and he provided the worst type of it? Why cast aspersions on her motives?

At the end of the day there is always two sides to the story. For some reason my gut tells me Chris is not the one to blame here.

Some people who know Chris better than either of us find Chloe's story very believable.

Why assume she’s telling the truth? Just because of gender? Because she’s the first one to tell her side?

Yes, he raped his girlfriend, repeatedly.

********.

Saying you’ll dump somebody if you don’t get sex is a dick move, BUT SHE KNEW OF THIS REQUIREMENT COMING INTO THE RELATIONSHIP!

He didn’t tie her down and force her. She could have left whenever she wanted.

Still does not mean she is right. If you check some of her other posts she sounds a bit crazy..... I am not psychiatrist by any means but she does not look like very sane person whom I would trust.

This says she tried to text him numerous times trying desperately trying to reconcile after the break up. Why would you do that if you were sexually and emotionally abused? And why would you start talking about abuse 4 years after breakup and not when it is happening?
To me it is classical case of somebody being butt hurt and trying to get back at his ex with fake stories in hopes of ruining his career. Well done Chloe. You got your few minutes of fame. Now lets move on from this.

Sometimes I think we are making great progress with regard to holding men accountable for ****** behavior, and then I come back to jazzfans and realize just how far we still have to go.

Most abuse victims go back, its pretty common.

I would venture to guess that he didnt break any law but that is not really a good basis for right/wrong. Just because he does not deserve jail time does not mean he did nothing wrong or that he cant be punished by people who dont like his behavior. He has the right to be ****** and people have the right to not want to associate with him or give him employment/attention. It sounds like this guy took advantage of his position of power and fame and used it to be an abusive ****** person. I dont think she was perfect in this, nor did she do everything right. Every relationship is a 2 way street. But he still seems like a ****** person and I have no problem with him being shamed by his ****** behavior. People are independently disassociating with him and losing his job or position of power is perfectly reasonable reaction to someone being ******.

Because she has nothing to gain by lying, except the suspicion of people who think she is out to gain something they can't identify.

So, it's only rape if you are physically tied down? Are you sure that's the position you want to go with?

I'm going with this: if a person does not want to have sex, and you bully them into it by whatever means, that is rape.

I don’t disagree with any of this.

I think people saying he raped her, and that she was forced into all of this are being extreme.

Frankly, it's Hardwick's text that looks a little insane to me. Chloe's responses are pretty much what I would expect from a person who has not recovered from her abuse.

Did you even notice the Daily Mail article contained an outright falsehood? It says Hardwick used this text to break up with Chloe, but if you actually read the text, it's clear they had separated before Hardwick sent the text. Do you think the Daily Mail was lying, or Hardwick?

Many abused people try to reconcile, and some take decades to be able to talk about it.

Chloe will get nothing but this but scorn from ignorant people who don't understand what abuse means or does. She has nothing to gain.

Let me be blunt with you.

She was not forced to have sex with him based on what she said. She was given an option, which she was aware of when she started dating him, and she chose to do it. He’s wrong for doing it, but he didn’t do anything illegal. I’ll repeat, he was upfront with how their relationship would be and she agreed to it. Does she get completely absolved for that?

That’s clearly not true.

She got him fired. Shes gotten revenge. She’s gotten more attention (positive and negative) than she’s ever gotten in her life, and most of the attention is positive.

To say that she’s getting nothing but negative from this is crazy.
