What's new

If Irving and Kanter are gone & we're on the clock...

Can I just say that drafting Kanter and Jimmer is completely antithetical to what KOC has (or had) been saying this whole time? "We want to get longer and more athletic." That is the least long or athletic draft combination realistically imaginable, probably even if you consider teams and their 2nd rounders. It's also terrible defensively.

If the Jazz are looking to step it up on the defensive end, they'll have to do a lot more than draft two guys who have - until this point at least - been completely disinterested in playing D, besides not having great tools for it.

Greg Miller has said on numerous occasions that the two needs he wants to address with the team (not necessarily through the draft) are size and shooting. Pretty sure Kanter/Jimmer hit those two nails on the head.

I feel kind of stupid posting this again, but there are 144 minutes available at the 3, 4 and 5. That's more than enough PT for Jefferson, Favors, Millsap and Williams.

I don't think Williams/Millsap are longterm solutions at the 3.

Yep. If it were 1987, that'd be a solid draft. Being subjected to almost nothing but plodding bigs since I started watching the Jazz (2003), I'm not a big fan of Kanter (even if his athletic tests don't make him out to be a plodder). Although change isn't necessarily a good thing, I'm ready for some.

I definitely don't think Williams is in the same class as Melo. Not even that close, really. The David West comparisons I can buy. But yeah, if you think he has that kind of ability to play the 3 you take him and don't look back.

My point was not to say that Williams is in the same class as Melo, or that he's the same type of player his is, but there are certain parts of his game that remind me of Melo.

I think it largely depends on how Favors and Hayward develop, and what the Jazz do at the 1 longterm. If Favors can be an ace help defender/shot blocker, Hayward continues to develop/refine his penetration/ball handling, and the Jazz find a good distributor at the 1, Williams could be absolutely deadly from numerous places on the court, even if his handle doesn't play at the 3 in the NBA. The dude is extremely crafty and competitive, and has a knack for getting to the line. A perfect second option.

And I think of those two Williams looks to be more able to play the 3, and I also think he looks to be a better 4. So I don't see why we'd keep Millsap after this year.
I actually see Williams as more of a Paul Pierce-ish 3. Big, strong and crafty.

Actually, it's like there are even more minutes than that because not every player plays every game.
