What's new

The Caravan

Nov 6th just can't get here fast enough.

Either I'm going to breathe a sigh of relief and know that the real US responded or I'm going to basically give up on this place as any kind example of freedom and democracy.

???

Freedom and democracy have us trump. You and I may not like it but it’s true. It’s fact. Cold, hard fact.

Despite the ramblings of a douche and the cheers of his followers democracy is just fine. Or did I miss the passing of a law banning free speech, religion, assembly...

Don’t get me wrong. His migrant stance is dumb, I think he’s sexist, he’s clearly playing with a half full deck... but democracy in America is stronger than currently being given credit.

I said "any kind of example"

The Founders of the US distrusted having too much democracy, because there have always been Trumps, and there always will be.

Furthermore, I don’t see how anyone can see the current political state and call it healthy. Trump is openly calling for his supporters to intimidate and be violent with others. Project Veritas right now is attempting to smear several candidates through the sleazy videos they splice and create. And a few Trump supporters got caught just this past week attempting to smear Robert Mueller.

When democrats take over the house, do we really expect the civility situation to improve? Once Mueller starts handing out indictments, once the house begins to actually hold Trump accountable, once (Trump) republicans begin to lose, do we really think things will get better?

Trump isn’t going to go down quietly. I’d expect some Mueller indictments (Roger Stone would be my guess) and Adam schiff is going to start investigating Trump in the House, and Trump is going to become more desperate and more angry. The political climate is going to get nastier until the GOP is wiped out for a term. His followers will complain louder about fake news and elitists. Then, and only then, can moderate republicans emerge and forge a more civil path away from Trumpism/Fascism.

Perfect example of what I’m talking about. This’ll get lost in the shuffle of all the other Trump related crap this week. But this message will be heard by some of his crazies:

This isn’t a good sign of a healthy democracy. Complete conflict of interest.

But in the age of Trump, anything goes! Winning is all that matters.

If you have not seen this as yet, this is an in depth and major study by the New York Times which documents the extent to which American law enforcement has ignored for decades the growth of white nationalism in this country, and at times has actually aided or looked the other way where white nationalist violence is concerned. It seems police have focused more on Antifa then white nationalists during recent confrontations, so if that is what the president wants, it's already the case:

I feel bad for the service members who have to spend Thanksgiving in tents on the border and who can't even go out to eat at Whataburger because Donald is using them as stage props.

You'd think abandoning the military in Paris and at Arlington because of a few drops of rain would be career suicide. All well. At least he didn't salute with coffee or wear a tan jacket. That would've been really disrespectful.

The more I think about this, the more I want to see the foreigner-runs-a-gas-station stereotype. Foreign workers becoming entrepreneurs, opening their own businesses here. Set up a system... they'll pay their taxes better than most naturalized citizens anyway.

And on the day to day basis, we may have a communication issue. But at least it's not some self made man's kid that doesn't want to be working but will be kicked out if they don't have a job. (Live in Herriman; My God these pricks are the bane of my existence)
