What's new

say NO to EXUM. the biggest bust since darko.

The two things stopping Exum from really being able to play the point was his handle and decision making, and both seem to have turned a corner in December. I would absolutely bet on Exum being able to play the point and continuing to improve those two things over him playing a swing man role and really needing to be able to shoot in the Jazz' system

Not sure but I just looked at that draft and damn, it was really, really good.
The draft in itself turned out to be pretty good, but the lottery was very disappointing when it comes to results vs expectations. Embiid is quite legitimately the only all star type player from the lottery right now, and outside of maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabye LaVine (huge emphasis on maybe) I can't see another one of those guys making an all star game in the next 3 - 5 years.

Maybe Aaron Gordon since he’s in the East but I doubt it.

He's actually been a bit of a disappointment this season imo. I've watched maybe 7 or 8 Magic games this season and it seemed like a season where he really should have been able to start showing out, but Vuc is outplayed him offensively and Johnathan Isaac is a significantly better defender than him.

One of my bold calls I made on another forum was that the Magic will trade him at the deadline and go forward with Vuc/Isaac as their starting frontcourt and Bamba as the 3rd big off the bench.

Do you have stats to back it up or it is just your eye test? Because mine says he is good at those things, not elite.
Like word elite should be reserved to special players who we have just a few in NBA ( Like for example Westbrook speed, Lavine vertical, Lebron Strength, Rudy's rim protection and so on) . Is Exum one of them in those things you mentioned? I do not think so.

Yeah elite is hard to define.
Agreed if you mean top 3 in any category, he probably is not. (Although I am not sure I can name 3 better players for each of the things I mentioned?)

Definitely using the eye test on my observations. Considering alot of advanced metrics hate X, I am assuming there is a lot of box score noise that doesn't reflect players fg% when Dante is primary defender, or the level of deterrence he provides for dribble penetration. I'm convinced DRPM in particular loves blocks and steals way too much.

Dante has various "elite" attributes.
- Height/Length combo
- 1st step
- Lateral quickness

I think Exum has some "elite" qualities in his mental makeup also.

As the original Exum hating gangsta, there's next to nothing that would get me to give up on the Jazz organization, except for drafting Exum. That's Warriors level idiocy. I hope he goes to LA. I'd rather max CJ Miles with a five year contract, listen to David Locke announcing replays in a 72 hour non-stop marathon, and drink any Miller beer product.

I can tell from the way you express yourself that are British true, Union Jack and all that.

It's that understated style of expressing deep convictions.....

my brother doesn't like Exum either, still thinks DM could be good, still thinks coach is rock bottom.

i think that's a silly comment given the dude's had to come back from 2 season ending injuries, have his time cut due to coach's decisions and had to keep persisting
His mental fortitude to come back from season ending injuries and still be grinding is great, but it's hard to say his mental make up is "elite" because of that is the general point. I struggle to think of any way to really justify him having elite mental makeup but I also think it's better than what the average person would currently give him credit for.

My point exactly. Elite mental makeup is ridiculous but you have to have mental resilience to come back from major injuries.
