2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Is BJelly better than Jerebko? Because Jerebko got very little playing time here.
Substantially.

It is not a coincidence that the Kings are playing better this year. Why they drafted the way they did is way the hell beyond me and virtually everyone else.

What about the other teams that let him go/traded him? What about the fact that his teams have been when he is off the court?

Lots of guys get traded... when he came into the nba he was a tweener... now that is all the rage. Scott Skiles apparently didn't like him in Orlando... Orlando also traded Oladipo... he's good.

Detroit's trade was dumb... that doesn't affect how good he currently is.

How many late picks turn into starters? Very few. How many dont make it in the NBA? A lot of them. Yes you can provide examples were it works out but chances are it doesnt. Also rookies dont contribute to winning basketball except in very rare circumstances. Usually 2nd year players dont as well. Teams usually sacrifice winning basketball to get them on the court.

I'm providing examples with this Jazz FO. I can keep repeating myself though, that it's not about a guarantee that the player will be good but about the low cost barrier and high upside potential.

How many teams win championships... All team building avenues have a low likelihood of working... nature of the beast.

Better shooter, quicker shot, can put the ball on the floor and score at other levels. Marvin Bagley.

He has been fading which worries me... he has had trouble staying healthy in his career. I'm not convinced they'd move him just for expirings. That FO doesn't know what they want to do from day to day so who knows.

That sample size is too small to put expectations of landing Gobert on though. Even that surprised the Jazz and was extremely lucky. There is very little upside to a pick that late. I wouldnt want to try and hope for that pick to turn into anything. It also took Gobert time to develop.

I don’t think the Warriors are vulnerable.

I don’t think the Lakers with Lebron and AD are any more formidable than the Warriors have been. If that even ends up happening.

The best chance the Jazz have is to put together the best team they can for the longest time that they can. I feel like the moves being discussed are impulse-buys.

If we got Conley and Otto, I think we can beat anybody.

Favors, Thabo and a 1st for Porter
Rubio and Exum for Conley

And we might even get lucky and find a good buy out player or two with our 2 extra roster spots.

Fair enough, I havent watched much of the Kings this year. Bjelly was mostly just a shooter for Minny last year. He also didnt play much defense and was no where near the hustle level of Jerebko.

I am sure he would be nice here but I dont think he improves us all that much, but I could be wrong. Maybe he has shown stuff this year that I havent seen.

Again, there's no expectation. But to say there is little chance, I just showed the Jazz have found value more often than not. It's a small sample but it's the only sample.

To go back to my initial point, I wouldn't mind trading a first round pick. But I'd have to get value back, not a negatively valued contract that is even more negative in my eyes because it limits precious offseason potential with the Don on a rookie deal.

Oh he improves us, but lets not get it twisted he is a 7th, 8th, 9th man.

Very few, thats why Its extremely unlikely. I would not build just for that. I would build to be a top 4 team every year in the West for awhile and hope to get lucky. We arent the Lakers.

Low likelihood, but when it does work it's huge... cost controlled player on a rookie deal is huge to building the rest of the team. Every year there are multiple starter level players that go in the draft after the lotto.

Yeah, It happens. More often its a bust, a lot more often. I would give it up for a good player most of the time though, especially in the Jazz's position.

Sef. He'd take Sef, Niang minutes. Depth at PF and insurance policy if/when we drop/trade Faves

Fair enough, I could see that. I like Sef better but he is hurt a lot right now and Im not sure if he will get back. Last year Sef was incredible. A great defender that could create and shoot. This year he has been hurt most of the year but still shooting incredibly well and playing good defense.

I still think Niang could be okay but he has been pretty bad lately.

Why would Kings do that though? They have like $1B in cap space this offseason. I think we'd have to add something or give them a backup pg... There could be a three team deal with Atlanta if they liked Exum.... I don't think he's available even though he's not getting as much run as he was earlier in the season.
