What's new

Jazz have been extremely aggressive in FA, re-sign Ricky Rubio and pick up Derrick Favors option

I'm trying to understand the residual saltiness here. Lindsey has made trades and acquisitions nearly every deadline and off-season since joining the Jazz, which typically has been good for the team. Most of the deals this deadline, if not all of them, don't directly impact the Jazz's standing or remaining schedule much. Sacto made some nice moves, but the Clipps and Grizz are bowing out. Simply put, it didn't actually CHANGE anything in the Western Conf itself.

Lindsey didn't overpay for a almost-allstar PG on the decline who's contract would albatross the organization for a few years. Is Conely good? Yes. Would he have made the Jazz better on the right deal? Probably, yeah. Is Memphis smoking drugs? Absolutely. Frankly, I think Exum was an overpay as far as his contract, but it wasn't bad comparatively and he could still grow. But I get the feeling Memphis wanted Exum, two 1sts, and Rubio. Frankly, that's too much for Conely.

Beyond that, most of the players previously linked to the Jazz went for deals that might just be rentals, but that doesn't pan out a lot of times and Utah will have a chance to sign one or a few of them outright without giving up picks or losing rotation players in the organization's long term plans.

Utah needs to make some plays this off-season, that's a given. But you don't trade simply for the sake of making one. I wanted Utah to make some sort of deal, but that doesn't happen sometimes. Stuff happens. Settle down folks, damn.

Jazz are going to renounce Rubio, I'm pretty positive unless we win a championship.

Favors will be renounced as well if he isn't used in a trade (he has a late guarantee date for that reason).

There is 0 reason to not be optimistic for this off-season.

The only way DL is going to renounce Rubio and Favors is if he can sign a max free agent.

I've been over the list of possible max free agents this summer and shown why it is extremely unlikely we get anyone who is an upgrade over Rubio/Favors to sign. Ive asked you multiple times and you still haven't answered my simple question... who do we get this summer? I don't think you can answer it.

The reality is that it's like a 95% probability that we strike out in both free agency and trade and DL just re-signs Rubio and Favors because there is no better option. Thinking otherwise is delusional.

A voice of reason. Very well said.

Seems like the jazz are playing not to lose instead of trying to win...and that's fine, I'm glad to know. I won't have to spend one cent of my hard earned money on the rest of this season. Don't get me wrong I'll still watch every game and love every minute of Mitchell and Gobert, but at the same time still be mad that we couldn't do better for them. Hope is a great thing, wish we had done this season, but like you guys have said wait for free agency.

We're really excited about adding (insert mediocre first rounder pick) to our roster, he has a lot of potential

Agreed, always amazed the incredible enthusiasm for draft picks. Yes, we have two great ones with DM and Rudy, but we also had the two Treys and Burks and and and. Most under perform and disappoint.

We got two great ones, time is now to add proven players that can contribute now while Rudy and DM are in their primes, not hope we get someone who can contribute well 3 to 4 years down the line, maybe.

The fact that DL wanted to trade Rubio, but not Exum tells me 3 possible things.

1. DL is going to find a new PG in the off-season
2. DL is going to start Exum next year
3. DL is going to start Mitchell at PG next year

I would be shocked, barring a huge playoff success story, if Rubio is on the team next year.

Favors will be renounced ONLY if we need the capspace to sign someone better.
No, I think it's a pretty forgone conclusion. Maybe if they strike out on everyone, but I find it hard to believe they can't get Mirotic with how tax burdened I'm assuming the Bucks are going to be.

Brh they just tried for the last 5 days to get Mike Conley. DL cant force teams to give us good players.

Prepare yourself to be shocked.

DL doesn't want Mirotic. He could have had him for cheap 2 deadlines in a row and didn't bite. I don't think that there is enough interest there.

Cheap? The dude cost 4 2nd rounders and a good defensive RFA.

Why pay that when you can just sign him?
