Summer 2019 Roster Discussion

And the Lakers were 13th in defensive rating last year but would have the worst rating in the league when Randle played center, so I dont know how much you can blame on "his team sucked".

That was more in reference to him being a good stats bad team guy. He sucks on defense as a center... but maybe you just don’t play him there if you can’t outscore the opposing bench unit that way... just not sure the NO bench unit is the one to use as the comparison.

Maybe you know, it's his fault.

Yup... it’s AD’s fault his team is mediocre every year even though he puts up numbers. Basketball is an individual sport and who a person plays with should be ignored when considering their individual contributions.

We're talking about Julius Randle...

And yes, I think Randle's last two teams have suffererd greatly from playing him at center. The stats back that up that he is the common factor in why his team's defense suffers when he plays the 5.

Sorry, I just think signing Randle with the idea of him being your backup 5 is a moronic concept.

I wish I had a time machine and could go back to last summer and tell everyone high on our flexibility that after the deadline HH and Cy would be arguing the merits of Julius Randle as our 2019 FA acquisition.

Randle would be an improvement over Favors for a number of reasons. And yes, he can play C too.

And yes, I'm serious.

Favors is putting up 121 off rating and 103 defensive rating
Randle is putting up 116 off rating and 111 defensive rating

Favors also has better WS, VORP, BPM, TRB%, and BLK%. Pretty much every advanced stat points to Favors. Randle is a better passer, he is also a better 3 point shooter but not a good 3 point shooter. Favors is a better mid range shooter, better around the rim, better rebounder and a much much better defender. At the Center position its not really close, its arguable at the PF spot. Randle is playing well but he doesnt change our team in a W/L way if he replaced Favors and there is a decent argument we are worse.

People are arguing against Randle because 12 minutes a game he isn't as good as Gobert or Favors at center. So we are okay keeping the inferior PF because we are worried about his ability to play a completely different position which we could easily cover with a plethora of cheap backup C options.

Newsflash people - we desperately need to find more offense especially in our starting unit. Well, most times guys who are great offensive players are also average defenders and vice versa. The guys who do both well are called stars and hard to come by.

So when fan favorite Favors gets played off the court this playoffs because he isn't a PF, I will remind you once again that we need a better PF option who can actually threaten the other team with his offense.

How about we find some offense that doesn’t hinder the rest of THE offense, you know, offense fits what the jazz do.

Lol, you’re such an idiot!!

Favors averages something like 15 minutes per game in 9 2nd round playoff games.

Randle passes, handles, shoots, and drives better than Favors. I'm not really sure how he makes our offense worse than Favors.

Please enlighten us idiots some more.

This would be a more biting post if your master plan wasnt "trade for Mirotic" and if that player wasnt a 100% signable in the off-season (he is).

I feel like you could use a time machine for better purposes... at least something way more fun.

He has tunnel vision, and holds on to the ball too much and has no idea how a true offense works. He’s like a smaller version of big Al. Yes he can score but his presence on the court would make Ingles DM and Gobert worse while also making the defense worse. Last year NO. went on a big winning binge after trading for Niko, this year they sign Randle, and all of a sudden that team is a dumpster fire. Also let’s not forget that this is the first time in his life he’s shot over 29% from three, who’s to say he doesn’t go back down after this year.

O-F-F-E-N-C-E Y-O-U I-D-I-O-T-!-!-!

Please just watch this 3 minute video. The guy isn't perfect and I would rather have Tobias Harris, but this Randle guy would completely open up our offense.

Randle averages 0 minutes per game in 0 playoff games.
Is LeBron James a top 3 player in the NBA?

He is on the same roster Randle was on last year except LA also added Rondo, McGee and Lance from 2018 playoff teams and former champ Tyson Chandler. Also, Lonzo, Kuzma, and Ingram have gotten another year under them.

LA still isn't a playoff team as of now. Not really fair to blame lack of playoff experience on Randle. And how many years did it take for Favors to make the playoffs?

Of course not. It's because the whole thing is like a bait-and-switch. We're okay with not doing certain moves because originally 2019 we'd swing for the fences on Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, or Klay Thompson. Then we moved down to Tobias Harris and Khris Middleton and were okay with it. Now we're at Julius Randle. This summer, we may be content with bringing in Aminu or Marvin Williams when we find out we're trading assets to get Kevin Love.

We shall see, but I honestly don't think we're that interested in him. But let's also see what we end up actually getting and then compare that to Mirotic, as you may find yourself on the "yeah, we probably should have gotten Mirotic" wagon, especially if it becomes Kevin Love.

Hey, if you want to see using time travel for stupid purposes, check this out:

That's a picture of the Ultimate Warrior from the early 90s, but the guy he's battling is a ~2016 Glenn Danzig.

First, why does Glenn Danzig have time travel capabilities? Second, and more importantly, why did he use it to do some early 90s wrestling?
