Summer 2019 Roster Discussion

Does Favors have less value because it took him a while to make the playoffs too? It is a team game. Does Blake suck because he isn't on an East playoff team? Doncic?

The Lakers were barely clinging to a playoff spot with LeBron and Rondo, Lance, McGee and Chandler. That team has major flaws with or without LBJ or Randle.

Discounting a player due to a lack of playoff appearances is foolish. It is a team game.

LoPo please stop.

If I ever own a franchise, I’m going to hire LoPo as the GM and PGAB as director of scouting. Then I’m going to grab some popcorn and watch what unfolds when LoPo trades some of PGAB’s guys. He’d probably take his ball and go home, and I’d be forced to hire homeytennis in his place to sign the same guys PGAB was pimping, but after they’ve washed out of the league.

Your team would both be embroiled in harassment incidents from PGAB and the other half would be alienated do to constantly being in trade rumors. There’s be no team chemistry because all those players would still be on the team because LoPo would fail at getting stars for role players. ROTFL

Almost forgot, once PGAB goes home with his black book full of teen prospects phone numbers and addresses HT would do what he knows best and sign G-League guys, leaving your team forever in mediocrity.

Did I miss something? Did LA get good because Randle left?

Sorry if I'm getting back on topic.

Also, if I was the GM, I would never let a guy with value expire. Ever. If he is solid, and has value, but we aren't keeping him long term, I'm getting something for him. I don't care if it's a 2024 lottery protected 1st, I'm getting it. Boston is a beast because they got value for any and everything when they were rebuilding. All the AKs, Boozers, Haywards, Millsaps, Jeffersons we just let expire infuriate me.

The Lakers were the 4th seed when LeBron got hurt and were rolling after their slow start. Losing LeBron absolutely decimated their team offensively, and the Lonzo injury only compounded their woes on the defensive end. They were a good team and a hell of a lot better than any Lakers team that Randle was on.

This tella us lebron is really good. Tells us nothing about randle though.

Obviously, but Lopo was trying to sell the Lakers sucking without LeBron as the Lakers were a flawed team and Randle was being held back by them or something.
I don't care what lopo was saying.
I quoted your post in order to discuss what you were saying.

As for randle, some have the opinion that he wouldn't make us better and that he wouldn't be a good fit. Some have the opinion that he would make us better and would fit. Those are simply guesses and opinions. We have no way to know which of those guesses are right or wrong.

We do have some facts though. His teams haven't been good. (Well his NBA teams haven't. His college team was quite good. Fact). But it's only an opinion that he was/is the main reason that his NBA teams have been bad.

It's a fact that the jazz often struggle to put the ball in the hoop. It's also a fact that the jazz need another pure scorer with DM. It's a fact that randle is really good at putting the ball into the basket efficiently.

It's my opinion that we are not going to be able to get a kahwi or Klay or Durant type player in free agency or trade. It's my opinion that any player we get (Niko, Harris, jabari, love, etc etc) will have flaws. Just like the guys we might let walk this summer also have flaws.

So the question is do you try to fill a need (efficient scorer) that is also a risk? Or just continue with the same flaws we currently have as a team and run it back.

I would choose to try to fill the need of more scoring with the risk of hurting defense and chemistry rather than not make a change.

It's a tough decision though.

Nice post... summarizes my feelings. I like where Randle's career is headed, but acknowledge it may not work. He may be the guy that doesn't get the big max offer, but is young enough that he may end up producing at a max level after development. I just think he should be considered and the different look would be better than the current fit... it's an opinion and a guess doe.

Those saying he doesn't fit the offense... Our offense is really rough... maybe we need to adjust it... I don't think Ricky or Favs are ideal fits either. I look at San Antonio... they change their identity to accommodate the talent. Aldridge is a ball stopper, but they have used him effectively.

I'd definitely rather have Harris and Middleton. I'd probably prefer Niko to Randle... It would be nice to have another guy you can throw the ball to and say "go get a bucket"... and Niko isn't that guy. The reason GS is so bulletproof is when the system breaks down and beautiful basketball stops working when games get ugly... they can throw the ball to KD and say go get a bucket... and he's maybe the best in the world at it. It isn't how you want to center your whole offense... but its something we need more of at times.

Randle just scores at such a high rate and does so really efficiently... I have a hard time viewing him as a good stats bad team guy. He might be a rich man's Kanter or he might develop into a poor man's Blake... I just think he should be under consideration if we whiff on the more obvious guys.

I'm not trying to argue if Randle is good or bad (besides him being a center, which he is clearly awful at) but I just think hes a bad fit. I don't see the strategy in overpaying for a guy who is going to be worse on your team and doesn't fit the defensive ethos.

Favors doesn't fit and is overpaid for his role on the team, but he at least he fits the team's defensive identity.

The Spurs offense is good because they have a ton of role players shooting the ball ridiculously well, not because they have incorporated LMA well.

For the last two years Randle has had the luxury of playing with stretch 5s. Its why he is able to produce well offensively. If he becomes the guy who is suppose to space the floor he is going to struggle.

**** it. Why don't we just put Brook Lopez in Favors' role?
