Lol, sorry dudes Hayward is exactly what this team needs. I hate the guy as much as the next man and I am enjoying every second of his demise but from a basketball and team need standpoint he checks all the boxes if he comes back healthy.

You are wrong... why does something have to benefit the team?

Non guaranteed contracts become guaranteed if the player is not waived by a certain date. Waiving the player gets the salary off the books... and the player goes through the normal waiver process.

Ok, but why would a team make a player non-guaranteed vs team option? There has to be some benefit to the team otherwise it's just a dick move.

Here ya go... from last year with Jonas... was waived and needed to clear waivers.

I guess the answer to my question is that non-guaranteed's can have a later date of a decision and team options must be uniformly decided at a specific, non-negotiable time. That has to be the only reason.
