What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Screw Conley. Dream bigger than that

32 year old PG costing us a 1st rounder and all financial flexibility.

Brilliant

You really should read my posts. Conley isnt a bad idea. He would help us on the court. I just don't think he is worth the sacrifices it would take to get him. It would be rhe last big play we had before had the big pay days for Rudy, Donovan and Royce.

He makes us better, but I don't think he makes us that much better. He isn't a dumb idea but one I definitely would avoid.

I mean screw Conley and describing the idea sarcastically as "brilliant" seems to indicate you think its a bad idea.

He makes us WCF better. Especially if it forces us to move on from Favors as our starting 4. Once you get into those echelons, the inertia carries you, so it’s easier to add quality guys and keep things going, but it’s hard as **** to get enough momentum to get that boulder rolling. Conley gets that boulder rolling. Farting on it doesn’t.

I also think when you have the Kawhi, Pascal, Lowry's you can find the Van Vleet, Gasol, Green additions to fill in the cracks.

If we have Rudy, DM, Conley that's pretty damn good and it all fits... add in Ingles, Royce, Jae as great to solid role players. Maybe Grayson develops, Niang improves, our 1st or 2nd this year hits... or we find some undervalued superstar in the waiting "Caruuuuuusssssoooo" (said in a whisper voice). There could be a role player on a less desirable contract that shakes loose too... like Gasol, Niko, did this year... or a guy that signs for the room exception because his market dries up like Lopez.

I prefer signing Harris/Kemba for nothing... but Conley is second on my list. Russell is after that for me... I just think he is as likely to regress as he is to improve. His mid range shooting and decent off the dribble three is what made him semi-efficient this year... it could be real improvement or one year outlier. I'm not sure he is ever a guy who draws fouls or can get to the rim and living in the mid range is not a recipe for big success.

I like Royce as much as the next guy, but he’s going to have to pull out a MIP season to be mentioned in this context.

I mean say we strike out and can get Conley for Exum, whoever we draft this year, and a 2021 top 10 protected pick... we'd still have $10-16M to spend on other positions depending on what we did with Korver and Neto. Could get you a decent stretch 4... some wing depth... like what else would we really need? Conley, DM, Ingles, Jae or Royce (or Niko or Rudy Gay), Rudy is super solid starting 5... add some depth pieces with the $10M and the room exception.

So Dallas... they don't have max space... Powell is picking up his option, so even if they waive all their capholds except the Zinger's they are still short of the max. Need to stretch Courtney Lee or move him for less salary. Don't have draft assets to really add a sweetner.

Anyway... know they were mentioned as a Tobias destination, but they'd have some work to do to clear the space.

Locke talking about trading our first +/- Favors for Kevin Love, which is the deal I've been talking about so much that I've decided to not talk about it. He thinks Kemba and Tobias likely not on the table and then you have to get a deal done on someone. He feels like our trade market for Conley isn't really big and that your backup is Love, and that's what he's doing is trading our pick and Favors in the mock draft he's doing. So, there you have it, folks.

Why not put an extra pick in and go after Conley... two firsts and a lot of salary relief should do it imo.

I listened... he mentioned Cleveland is close to " having to give picks to offload his salary". Like if you believed that as a GM... why wouldn't you just wait. At least go to the point where he doesn't cost you a pick.

I'd rather take the $30M in cap space and split it between Bev (10Mish) and Rudy Gay (15Mish)… get non-guaranteed second year options... go into the season and make a trade if you have to. I think those are one year overpays for those guys.

It isn't just the age and contract with Love... it's that he is the old kind of stretch four. Guys have to be able to stretch and dribble and guard... he can do one of those.

Cleveland has a chance to help someone clear space at the draft with JR Smith's contract. Can likely add another future first to the ledger. Issue is they will be signing up for a $40M luxury tax bill.

If they do the trade at draft time they will offload Love at some point for salary relief.

My premise for us desperately trading for Love was based on desperation. But, I'm having some doubts on that. Meaning, I'm legitimately starting to believe that DL would see running it back with Favors and preaching flexibility as a real option. That scares me. But it also has me questioning if he'd trade for Love.

I'm really intrigued by the fit with Bev... He's one of the perimeter guys that has a huge effect on defensive effectiveness. I am not sure if it would add on to the Rudy effect or if it would be tempered through diminishing returns. I also wonder if you add him if you can have a non-defender like Niko on the floor. Bev, DM, Ingles, Niko, Rudy... that's a lot of shooting around the Rudy PnR… I don't think opposing perimeter players would be stoked to see Beverly on ball and Rudy in the paint.

I prefer running it back and replacing Rubio with Beverly than going to get Love. It is likely the worst contract in the league and we are giving up a pick for it? If he was a free agent what would you give? Like 3/60M max after the year he had imo… He has 4/100M left... and we are giving the pick?

Scratch that 4/120M left.... it would be just an obvious monstrous mistake.

Is it even possible to do that trade on draft night since Favors contract can't be guaranteed until July?

This might be an unpopular opinion but I would rather run it back than get love
