What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

So apparently now we need to root for the Nets to land a big-time free agent to play next to Kyrie. It feels like an unrestricted D-Lo is our best chance to make a splash.
I hope the FO recognizes some of the opportunities sitting on the table. For instance, I think buying low on Jabari could very well be a better long-term move than going after DLo.

I mean it feels like a guarantee that a big-time free agent is going to Brooklyn with him. The Nets have opened two max slots. Plus I don't see a reason why Kyrie would decide to go there in the first place unless another star was going with him.

Nets just cleared capspace for 2 max free agents.

D'Angelo might be available... or Dinwiddie? We should attack.
*React. The Nets can't keep both, but they can and should easily keep Dinwiddie now that they have that extra theoretical max slot... but that slot only exists if they renounce D-Lo.

I'm not sure what they do... renouncing D'Lo seems foolish unless they have a signature from someone... if they don't then they likely retain him rather than losing him for nothing and move Dinwiddie because he has a lot of trade value? I just can't imagine Kyrie and Russell being the plan... maybe he walks for nothing.

We might be able to negotiate a sign and trade where we use Jae and space for Russell and potentially get him at something slightly better than the max.

Does seem like there will be an opportunity here and that this is a significant domino.

KD and Kyrie to the Nets is a dream scenario. ****s over Boston and opens up a real chance in the WC. We better be able to capitalize.

Also, think about the pitch if KD heads east, the balance of power shifts substantially and you can suddenly start pitching a real chance at the finals.

Definitely. They hold the cards, though. You gotta wonder if they’re going to pull some serious tampering **** with D-Lo like getting him to sign for way-below market on a 1 + PO with the promise of maxing him the **** out next offseason.

They have some good young talent and a different vibe than the Knicks. He might have someone coming with him, but they needed to clear a little space anyway to sign one max guy... now they get a decent young wing and their hand may not be forced with Russell.

If they have Kyrie, Harris, LeVert, Prince, Allen... plus Dinwiddie and get a couple mid tier guys after renouncing Russell then that's solid.

Nah someone would force their hand... the Sacramento Leverages potentially.

If Dan Clayton is right then the Jazz can't take back any salary for Favors if they trade him before his guarantee date in July.

They can push up the date or wait to consummate the trade until after July 6... the trade Brooklyn just made can't be completed until July 6.

For the record, I swap Favors for two first rounders* and Crabbe every day of the ****ing week. That doesn’t mean that’s my first choice for how to use our capspace, but I sure as **** know I prefer that to bringing back our ancient, stupid roster philosophy.

*the move would have been waiving Favors to have that space, not a trade of Favors for Crabbe.

If they trade Favors, it's because his salary counts in a trade (meaning he gets guaranteed to complete the trade). I don't see any scenario where we trade Favors and have him be $0 outgoing.
