What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

Jabari is a legit asset to so far as value/talent to cost ratio. Obviously he may not mature and continue to not give a **** on d but he showed signs of improving last year.

And we need legit assets.

Jabari might be good for the MLE, but only if WA doesn't pick up his option. No chance in Hell, Michigan that the Jazz trade for him.

Conley > DLo.
SidLowe even > DLo.

Comparing them at 22 its not close that DLo is light years ahead of where he was at that age.

Comparing them based on last season its debatable their stats are very close.

I would give the edge to Conley but barely.

Next season Conley will most likely be worse and his health is very concerning. He has had a lot of injuries and is slowing down.
Dlo should be improved and in a better system that will help him out. Plus Dlo is a better shooter which is very needed. He is also a taller guy next to Mitchell.

Plus we lock Dlo down for long term to pair him next to Mitchell that is a friend and the same age. They can grow together. 4 years from now we still have a much improved Mitchell and Dlo. The other option is not having Conley or having a 36 year old much worse version of him.

I would strongly prefer Dlo to Conley for those reasons. Plus we dont have to give up extra assests and we still have extra money to pick up other players. Its not really close for me.

That said Conley would be a solid pickup. But I would not give up more than Favors, Korver, and this years 1st. Exum on top of that or instead of Korver would be a no for me.

That's a good rotation especially if Exum can get and stay healthy and not suck (big if).

Not championship level but maybe wcf level and you never know what happens at that point. Maybe the jazz get hot for a series or the opponent goes cold or gets key injuries.

I would be very happy if that was our rotation next year.

Would still rather get Tobias, Malcom, Russell, etc in free agency but I would be good with the loss of favors and Rubio and addition of Conley and Niko. I think we would be a better team next season. Hell, just replacing Rubio with about anyone makes us better imo

Exum would be gone in this scenario but I think that's okay because Neto is better anyway.

This would definitely be a winning move. I agree it probably doesn't make us a favorite. But it puts us right there in the hunt. And in the hunt is where you want to be. Look at Toronto. They weren't a favorite this year. They weren't even a favorite in their own conference. But they made moves like this to get in the hunt. Then they get hot, some things break their way and boom, champions. We need to be in a similar position. Especially when next season is looking so wide open.

Here's my biggest issue with Conley (and I've love to hear a counter argument to it). Conley has two years left on his deal. When that deal is done Conley will be 34 years old and his career will likely be about over. Meaning he won't be a top guy for the Jazz to resign. They'll also likely have Mitchell on a max deal that point and Rudy on a supermax deal, meaning there will be 0 cap space. There likely won't be any potential all star players whose bird rights the Jazz have. That basically hand cuffs the Jazz and leaves no real free agency options.

Finding a guy in free agency this year whether it's an all star like D Lo or two younger potentially impact players, at least that would lock them up for longer and then give us Bird rights to them to potentially resign those players when we don't have any cap space.
1. Donovan will be a RFA, his cap number in two years is pretty small until and unless he signs an offer. The Spurs were able to open a max slot by having Kawhi wait to sign his max deal that offseason. The Jazz could do the same.

2. Rudy doesn’t have to sign the extension in advance. There is also no law that he will require the supermax.

3. Conley likely expires that year as well (PO next offseason). Ingles and Exum also expire. The Jazz could actually have a ton of capspace in 2021.

If we traded Favors and Korver plus picks for Conley, we'd end up with about $7.5 Million in cap space. Maybe they dump Crowder to free up around $15.5 million for a second-tier free agent? They'd also still have the MLE of almost $9 million. That would be interesting.

We are losing too many rotation pieces in this scenario imo. It doesn't make any sense for us to lose Favors AND Crowder. Let Favs and Ricky go. Trade Exum's contract in the Conley deal. Keep Neto for cheap to replace Exum, he's better right now anyway. That should clear up enough money for a solid player.

4. None of that matters if the Jazz aren’t going to meaningfully address the flaws of the roster very soon. Conley isn’t a long term solution, but it at least gives the Jazz a puncher’s chance in a season without the Warriors superteam (at least next year).
