What's new

You're the GM this offseason. What do you do?

That doesn't mean they release Russell. They could still match any offer and then trade.

No they need to shed that cap hold to sign two maxes from the free agent pool. Is Irving going to go to Brooklyn by himself? Doubt it. So think they need to sell Irving on the idea of bringing two maxes in.

In terms of off-season success, signing an unrestricted Russell is 2nd only to signing Tobias.

Even if we maxed Russell AND kept Korver, we have cap space left and the room exception. If Korver retired, we could be sitting on $10+ million in cap space.

C'mon Donovan, get to work on him.

I prefer D-Lo to Harris. He fills a much much bigger need and has more upside. Harris is really over rated on this board. I would be happy to get him but wow does this board really over rate him. No team has cared about keeping him... People bag on D-lo defense but are okay with Harris defense? Advanced stats say D-lo was a better defender at 4 years younger. My eyes would agree.

I think this board is just desperate for a stretch 4 and think that is the solution to all our problems. But a shooting PG and SG is a much much much much bigger deal for us. We have had a pure stretch 4 last year and they couldn't get playing time. We also already have an okay stretch 4 in Crowder. Russell is Rubio with a respectable shot and just as good or better defense. He is a huge upgrade at that position. Harris is an upgrade at the 4 but not much over Favors and Crowder if you factor in defense.

We can also get Russell and still pick up a solid 4 to backup or start at the 4. We also have room to get a solid backup 5 that we lose in Favors. Pickup Mirotic, Aminu, Thaddeus, JaMychal, Morris, Chandler, Jabari, Tolliver, or Mike Scott along with Russell and we are really set. There are way more options at that position. Or there are some solid trades at that position.

To me the most important thing about this offseason is who can play well with Donovan. And Donovan has only tipped his hand toward one player if I'm not mistaken. I think Conley or Kemba would be great too.

All I know is that when Rubio plays like an all star PG, the Jazz have looked freaking amazing. Unfortunately, this happens only every third or fourth game. Imagine if we got that type of production every night. . .

If you go with Russell it's going to be who can outshoot each other between him and Donovan

To me Russ and DM seem a little redundant. If we go pg it needs to be Conley. But how people don’t see what Harris gives us is our biggest need is beyond me.

We can slide Mitchell to PG and let Russ gun the 2. Utah then has a guard rotation of DM, Russ, (misc PG), Royce, and Allen. I'd prefer a younger player like Russ to Conley, but I'll take either.
