What's new

So this is the 20 year anniversary of Jazzfanz

@Jason

I’d buy tix next time. Seriously. It worked fine for me last time. I’d get a headcount a week or so in advance, with price range, buy the tix right away within that range, get the money from peeps, and forward tix info to each person.

It really wasn’t bad last time though those were only for like $48 tix iirc. 20-30 people is probably too big of a dream. But I think we could get up to maybe a dozen.

Whoever was Aint was a clever and funny dude if he also had a dark side, so One Brow could've taken it as a compliment if he really was Aint. He was such a prolific poster and must've put some time into realizing that voice time and again, you would think he'd still be here. He did have a reincarnation, but I forget his second username. Don't know whether or not that persona was banned too. I think whoever he is / was, that he is still here.

Hopper. Banned. Maybe it was you? Maybe this whole time it’s only been me, Jason, and Colton posting here. Fight Club style.
That's right, Hopper. Well, whoever, was writing that dialect did a good job, unless he really was a dude from the hood, or at least brought up there. It's not that easy to do. I doubt that Aint and Hopper were different posters.

I haven't met anyone from any hood who talked like aintnuthin wrote. I'd guess it was a deliberate pastiche of different accents from different parts of the country.

1. Thank you, Jason.
2. Any idea what date you launched the site in 1999?
3. Who was the second (assuming you were the first) user to join?
4. Any fun early site days stories?
5. How long ago did the site crash and we have to start anew? I’m guessing about 10 years now.

@Jason

On a tangential note, I’ll probably come out for the playoffs again either this season or next. Last time I bought four tix and ended up selling those to four users here (fish, Siro, BP, and ?) as I proceeded to buy 13th row, dead halfcourt tix for $400 a pop with my buddy who came and use those instead. Unreal ****ing seats. Anyway, my point is, I think it would be epic if we could get like 20-30 of us to go to a playoff game.
Let me know when and I'll make the trip from SoCal.

Summer of 1999 was very early days or months so JFFR has to be one of our first still around. I think he was like 8 years old at the time though living in Reno. Catzies probably beat him here. It was slow going those first few years. Wasn’t until we became the Utah Jazz forum on Rivals and RealGM that things took off. Check out the internet archive for fun memories.

I’d love to do a Nite Out again but it’s always a lot of “I’ll be there” until the money comes due. Got a bunch of tickets when Utah played the Warriors in the second round a few years back and lost my shorts on them.

I’ve enjoyed a lot of this community over the years and am grateful for *most* of you. Thank you for joining and participating. I know the act of joining and then the act of participating are both daunting steps so hopefully more of you lurking out there can hop in here and say hello. Be a part of the next 20 years!

Thank you!

I started lurking in the real GM days. Only really got heavily active after the reset. You've run a great site, much appreciated. You're an unsung hero.

It was obviously deliberate because as soon as the convo got heated he dropped the shtick almost completely.

When you first started posting, I read every post through the lens of thinking this guy was posting:

I’ll admit, it certainly colored the way I perceived your posts. That’s not what I see now, but it’s what I saw then. Same with Cy’s old DWillpwnasaurusrex avatar.

I never read an entire post of Aint's. I'd make it a few sentences in and I couldn't understand what he was saying (literally.) The only other poster who I have a hard time reading and comprehending is babes'.

It's funny how avatars do that. It's hard not to visualize who you're talking to unless you've met or seen them.

Spot on, pretty much. Only I'm not that buff.

Pretty sure I never read a full post, either. I forget some of the linguistic aint-isms, but they were annoying.
