Jazz Decades NBA Fantasy Draft

I'm pretty sure you just have to take into consideration the general body of work. The average(s). So, going back to the Shaq in the 2000's thing, he was dominant for the first few years but started tailing off pretty hard in 2007. So maybe his last years of the decade dip what you might consider his contribution, but you're still getting a great player. 90's Shaq is better though because there is no tail-off and it didn't take him any time to get going when he got to the league either.

But yes, since it's a popularity contest, there's something to be said for the namesake. Mutombo isn't exactly an all-time great though, even considering his 90's stint (his best). And he was awesome too. This isn't an exact science, obviously (and especially since this is vote-based), but just put together the best team you can given the general parameters.

He had all 4 championships in the 00s. 8x Allstar in 00s. 5x in the 90s. 6x all NBA 1st team 00s. 1x in the 90s. His one MVP (how did only win once?) was 99-00 so I guess we can call that a wash.

So by that argument shouldn't 2000s Shaq really be better than 90s Shaq?

I'm going to go with:
Dirk Nowitzki

A 10 time All-Star (02-11)
League MVP (06-07)
Vote to the All NBA teams 11 years in a row (4 1st team, 5 second team, 2 3rd team selections)
Finals MVP (10-11)

A 7 foot tall PF with great range Nowitzki Is an opposing teams matchup nightmare. Though the 00's he averaged:
PPG: 24
RPG: 9
AST: 3
BLK: 1
FG: 48%
3pt: 40%
FT: 89%

Round 3 - 00's NBA
17. NUMBERICA - Lebron James
18. Chad - Kobe Bryant
19. Ben10 - Dirk Nowitzki
20. PKM - OTC
21. Cyrone Torbin
22. Salmon Hobo
23. prodigy
24. vslice

With the 20th pick, PKM, selects Kevin Garnett

SalmonHobo selects Jason Kidd.

A great leader, floor general, and man who took the Nets, let me repeat that, THE NETS, to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances. Kidd's most underrated skill? His defense. He is one of the best wing defenders of the last 15 years and will be able to lock down any 1 or 2 on any team. Yes, even Kobe Bryant.

I'll take...

Steve Nash

Two MVP Awards(04-05, 05-06) , one of the best shooters the nba has seen, led the NBA in assists 4 times in the 00's
One of the best pure point guards in NBA history, unfortunately like Stockton never won it all

Would you have taken Nash over Kidd? It was a very tough call for me but at the end of the day Kidd's defense is so much better than Nash's and he seems to be the better leader to me. I know Nash's offense is so much better than Kidd's but defense and Finals appearances dictated my decision.

I would have taken Kidd if you have taken Nash. Can't really go wrong with either of them IMO.

It's crazy Stockton never got more run as an MVP candidate. Numbers wise Stockton had 4 or 5 BETTER seasons than Nash's MVP years(although Nash did help the Suns win 62 game his first year back in PHX). Nash was the better 3 point & shooter by the numbers. Did Stock ever even sniff the top 10 in MVP voting?
