Jazz are emerging as serious threats to sign Bojan Bogdanovic

It is smart that the Jazz aren't renouncing him yet. The Jazz have done everything possible thus far to handle the situation the right way. They've allowed his agent to contact other teams before free agency so that they aren't trying to figure everything out last minute. And they are trying to get something done ASAP.

Agreed. No reason to part on bad terms if Bogie gets locked up.

In all of my complaining about the Favors situation, I really hope it’s not lost on people that I know he’s a great dude and very good player. For that reason, it has been and continues to be ******** that we are stringing him along through all of this. Let him go get his payday, let’s shake hands, and go on our ****ing way.
While I get this, Jazz gave him a higher contract last year for just this type of flexibility. Him and his agent knew this was a part of it when they signed the contract. I hope it gets resolved soon too, but don't blame the Jazz for waiting until they are sure.

I just hope he doesn't go to the Lakers. That would suck.

Is there a path forward to sign Bojan and also retain Favs?
Yes, but it’s complicated, and would require assistance from Indianapolis and Memphis.

Step 1 - work out a sign and trade deal with Indiana for Rubio and Bogdanovic. This should be pretty easy and strait forward - as long as the numbers work.

Step 2 - adjust the deal with Memphis so you don’t have to use cap space to trade for Mike Conley.

Three parts to this - A.) Add Exum to the existing deal. B.) Get Memphis to fully guarantee Korver’s $7.5 million contract. C.) Improve the draft compensation to make it worth their while. Best way would be to give them next year’s pick (without protections) and then leave the current protections on the 2022/23/24 pick the same. Maybe throw in some cash to offset them buying out Korver.

Conley $32.5 million vs. Exum, Crowder, Korver and Allen ~$27.5 million.

Jazz would keep Favors, add Conley, add Bogdanovic and keep the full MLE of $9.2 million and the Burks trade exception of ~$4 million. But it costs them Exum and another draft pick to pull it off.

Conley, Mitchell, O’Neale, Bogdanovic, Jingles, Favors, Gobert, Full MLE free agent, Neto, Niang, Burks trade exception, maybe Bradley, the three rookies.

They are for sure waving one of Niang or Neto. To get to 80 over 4 years all they have to do is trade Bradley, which shouldn't be hard/

For some reason I’m under the impression they need to waive Neto to make the Conley trade happen.

Nice.

i don't think we can according to the rules. we've already cleared Ricky through the Conley trade
Nothing is official until July 6 - there’s still room to maneuver to get over or under the cap - depending on what you’re trying to accomplish.

Sign and trade Rubio works if you’re not using cap space to land Conley. Otherwise, you waive Favors and bring Bogdanovic in using that freed up space as well.

2004 Lakers and 2011 Heat were supposed to win the Finals too but lost to better teams not better players. We are going to be a top-3 team in the league.

Mitchell still needs to emerge as something like a 26 or 27-pt scorer in the league, but he'll have the right pieces around him to do it, if we pull this off.
