I think that question, from a pure logic standpoint, shows that if you choose Exum, it's only because of feeling connected or emotionally invested in him, because in no scenario does it make sense to opt to get the same quality starter later than to get it now.

What he doesn't seem to get is that there's a difference between THINKING that Exum won't be a contributer and HOPING that he won't.
Hate isn't the word I would use but whether you like him or would simply prefer to replace him with someone else.
