Repair Advice Needed

Help a girl out. I know nothing about machinery, so I need some advice.

While washing a set of towels yesterday, the washer would not drain the last 1/2 inch of water, so my towels did not spin out properly. So my question is - is there an easy fix to this? If so, what it is? Is it worth getting a repairman? Or do I need to buy a new washer?
 
Have you tried doing another load? If so, did it finish properly? If not, try it.
I’m definitely not an appliance repair expert, but I’d guess it’s something to do with the pump, the relay, or the switch to the pump.

A lesser possibility is the washing machine's control board, in which case it might be time for a new washer. But I'd put that as a pretty low possibility.

I had a similar issue with my dishwasher, it stopped draining. I ordered a $12 drain pump assuming that was the most likely issue. Once I got the old pump off I found one of those plastic bread bag things jammed into it. I went ahead and put the new pump in and good to go.

If I had to put money on it I would guess it's the pump.
 
My money would be on an unbalanced load. Was it a fairly large load with big, heavier towels? If it was a large load, try removing some of it - if a small load, try adding a couple more things.

I would have no clue about replacing the pump.
 
It wasn't a large load. We tried it again, and it had the same problem. Looks like I'll be using a laundromat tomorrow for the first time in ages - because of course I have procrastinated doing laundry the past week and it can't wait while we decide.

My advice is to bite the bullet and buy a new one instead of having it repaired. IME, appliance repair is always about 1/2 price of a new one. This coming from someone who will fix whatever I'm capable of. For example, I'm currently knee deep in grease fixing this:

If you want to try something simple, check the drain hose and the drain in the back. Pour some water down that hole and see what happens. You can also check if the pump is clogged if you can manage. If neither of those, throw it away.

Ummm fire the maid?
 
When I still had three daughters living at home this happened on a regular basis. Bobby pins! They would collect and clog the drain at the bottom of the washer tub. They also caused a number of clogs in the bathroom sinks. I HATE BOBBY PINS!!

I know nothing about appliances. My wife's family are all appliance repairmen. Call someone.

My father-in-law built a secret dynasty buying appliances people were throwing away.... practically speaking..... fixing them and selling them. He taught his children. They all went into the business themselves.

well, OK. I'll confess.

your first guess would be a simple screen of clogged drain line. The repairman could just remove the hair (and bobby pins), dog or cat hair, bubble gum, bits of plastic debris, etc from the screen, smile, and charge you for a new motor too.

The sales folks at the big store will start with the smile, and charge you for a new everything.
 
Honestly YouTube is the best. My dishwasher had an inch or two of standing water in it. I watched a YouTube video and the dude said it’s probably due to some thing at the bottom/back of the washer. I took it out and cleaned it (or something I forget) and put it back and reran it and it worked.
