What's new

School kid dragged by his bus. Claimed to be racist act.

From that story there’s just allegations he is. So who knows.

Having said that “look at my dog. He’s as black as could be.” Really? What an idiot. That right there makes me wonder tbh.

Just based on the video:

1) I can't believe it is acceptable that a bus driver is allowed to close the door when there is a kid standing in the well like that. The kids should either be sitting down, or getting off the bus. That alone makes it lawsuit-worthy.
2) The article refers to a claim of a history of discriminatory behavior. That should be considered, as well.
3) I can't believe the bus company wants the driver to talk to the press. Doubly stupid.

This world’s gone completely in the *****er. Common sense is a thing of the past.

California has now banned the term "manhole", and changed it to "maintenance hole". Lol!!!

Doesn't common sense mean you name the thing after what it's purpose is? It is a hole used for maintenance purposes, right?

No, it doesn’t. Like, at all. Go through a list of similar words in the English language and see how many do not have literal derivations as you recommend. Thanks. Now please shut the **** up.

I’m curious, One Brow. When referring to a woman’s vagina, do you call it the insemination hole?

I’m literally laughing out loud. You’re hilarious bro.

It’s not. That’s why the district settled. They would’ve been raked over the coals in court. At the very least it’s negligence (which employees are terminated for) and at the very worst it’s assault, child abuse, and a hate crime.

That history can be requested. After all, he (was) a public employee. I wonder if it has?

There’s no way in hell that Davis School District wanted that senile old man to make public comments. You’d never see a teacher or an administrator do that. But drivers are classified employees and maybe the emphasis of, “shutting the hell up and let the district do the talking” was missed? Or maybe because he was terminated (allowed to retire) he feels like he can speak publicly? Either way, it’s a bad look. Especially after he compared that student to, “his black dog.” Oof

Not an excuse but just additional information, Utah is severely lacking in public school employees. Like big time. That’s why you’re seeing many districts raising their CERTIFIED EMPLOYEE salaries (teachers). But something that flies under the radar is the shortage of CLASSIFIED employees. Custodians and bus drivers are in extremely short supply and in great demand. Five years ago the custodian at my old school worked 60+ hrs a week because the district didn’t have the money to hire any additional help.

So the people driving the buses, aren’t exactly social justice warriors with PhDs. Not to say that all bus drivers are terrible. Two years ago there was one in Alpine who received national recognition for her help with a girl whose mom has died of cancer. But sadly, with the CLASSIFIED shortage, You’re more often than not, dealing with people who literally couldn’t get a job anywhere else.

There should be an age restriction when it comes to bus school drivers or any other big vehicle drivers. Sorry, but at 78 you should be enjoying retirement and not operating a public transport vehicle.

I don’t disagree with you.

However, That would violate ageism laws.

And that would exacerbate the bus driver shortage in this state.

Remember now, Utah’s legislature passed a tax cut in 2007 that really hurt public education funding. They’re looking to do it again in 2020’s session.

Elections have consequences. Sadly, Utahns like the sound of tax cuts but the long term effects on public services are typically negative.

Btw I don’t know of a single older bus driver who’s doing it for fun. Usually they’re doing it because they need some extra cash to pay for medical costs.

Can’t wait til some compute nerds out there are “offended” by the term gigs, as in gigabytes (even though the prefix makes totally numeric sense), because they’ll say it reminds them of gigalos.

I don't think I have enough of the mans history to think he's being racist. Certainly dangerous enough for a very stern reprimand, up to termination.

As to good Wes' comments, I'd like you all to review this 2003 post from slashdot

In an interesting twist on political correctness, L.A. County has banned the use of the terms 'Master/Slave' (commonly used to denote hard drive arrangements.) According to Snopes.com, 'someone within the County bureaucracy... had taken offense at "master/slave" references and complained to the board.' L.A. County now requires that vendors working with the county remove all 'master/slave' references.

There's a link to a snopes article explaining it. For those that don't know what master/slave refers to in this situation, here's a wiki link

We've been there for most of my adult life. It feels worse now because we're a helluva lot more connected than we were in previous decades.

one of our liberal politics was trying to push agenda on stop calling homeless people - "homeless". Apparently it is insulting and they need to be called "outdoor neighbours". My oh my.

I understand need for extra cash. It should not put public at risk though. There must be some jobs which do not demand good physical health status and driving skills.
