As I'm making my lunches for the week and doing some pickling and my laundry the doorbell rang and knocks on the door when my porch was dark as **** and my driveway lights were also off. The universal symbol for "we're not handing out candy" is lights off. It's weird that some people don't understand that.

Excuses, you tight arse bastard!!! I can see you sitting behind your desk stroking your cat, the doorbell rings and you ask you wife, "Who is at the door love?", "Local children dear" she replies, "Children?" you ask, "Yes dear" she replies as if exasperated by your persistent questions but also in anticipation of what follows. "Release the hounds!"
 
When a general contractor takes his sweet *** time making a decision and that gets mad when special order **** isn’t here and the customer wants to open.
Don’t get pissed at me because you and the building owner argued for three ****ing weeks to decide this one non-stock item has to be there.
Not to mention the fact that he gave me three days notice that the job I didn’t even bid was going to be ready and I was doing it. I’ve been working 7 days a week, 15 hours a day for a month and a half to squeeze this guy in, as a favor to him when the other electrician bailed.
****ing *******.

I’m being serious. You always say **** like this, and have mentioned how your prices are cheaper (by far in some cases) than industry standard iirc.

Wtf? Don’t rip people off. But you’re not a ****ing charity and have a clan to think about.

When I first started my own business, I was too cheap. I’ve learned how to bid better/charge more. I’m probably still in the lower end of industry standard, but I lose bids regularly.

Good. About charging more. So far as losing bids, I’m sure most jobs get bids from at least three or four electricians. Knowing that, I’d guess you “lose” bids about 67-75% of the time.

There are a lot of jobs (most) that get bids from multiple general contractors. On occasion I know I’m low for a GC, but they won’t win the job.

I’m not a GC. When a job bids, multiple GC’s will bid. They get bids from (usually) multiple plumbers, sparkys, HVAC companies, etc. and take the lowest to use in their bid. I know there are times I’m low bid to my GC, but they’re not low bid on the job.
