Vaping Illnesses

Sucks to be the vaping guy that switched from smoking to vaping because it's "safer."

investigators found people who used e-cigarettes were 30 percent more likely to have developed a chronic lung disease, including asthma, bronchitis and emphysema, than nonusers.

"E-cigarette use predicted the development of lung disease over a very short period of time. It only took three years," said the study's author, Stanton Glantz, of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education of the University of California, San Francisco.

The draw of nicotine is mind-boggling to me. I don't get it. It packs a punch the first little while you use it, then you use it just to keep the withdrawal at bay. It's really ridiculous. My son started vaping he said to help control his anxiety. When we got him into a psychiatrist the first thing he recommended was stopping all tobacco use because nicotine wreaks havoc on people with anxiety issues. My son just said "well when I vape it calms my jitters" and he just will not be convinced that the nicotine us a big part of creating the jitters in the first place. Nicotine might be the most insidious drug we have for these reasons. People who use it tend to be wildly unreasonable about it. I don't get it.

Expensive too.

Same goes for all drugs(illegal and prescription)and alcohol. The problems you think they are helping the drug is actually making worse. Anxiety, depression, all of it gets worse from drug use. It becomes a vicious cycle.

Thank you, Tom Cruise.

Agreed. To me the difference is with alcohol and other drugs there is a stigma in society, even if it's minor, for use or overuse, that tends to push some people away. With tobacco it's basically just that it's stinky when smoked, gross when spit and chewed, but hey, vaping is great, all the fun, none of the risk. Other than heavy dependence and lung disease on the horizon. But hey, it smells fruit! How bad can it be? That's why it's so insidious. Try to get a kid to inject something or drink a beer, they will minimum look at you sideways. But hey, this tastes like strawberry, you'll love it!

People who vape look like douches. It’s just naturally a douchey look.

That should be reason enough not to do it.

Interestingly, there was a survey done back in the 1940s or 50's. Something like 65% of non-smokers said they enjoyed the smell of tobacco smoke.

I like the smell of a burning cigarette. Not the smell after someone exhales it and certainly not the stale smell of it on furniture, clothes, etc. As a kid, I would literally go and stand next to an aunt as she smoked to get that smell.
I also love the smell of the coffee aisle in the grocery store.
