"The 600 mostly young soldiers at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, were headed for the Middle East, part of a group of some 3,500 U.S. paratroopers ordered to the region. Kuwait is the first stop for many. Their final destinations are classified.

"We're going to war, bro," one cheered, holding two thumbs up and sporting a grin under close-shorn red hair. He stood among dozens of soldiers loading trucks outside a cinder block building housing several auditoriums with long benches and tables."

Trumps poll numbers must look bad, maybe he can fight the war on Twitter?

Trump will be in the field fighting the war.

I think things have changed to the point where this escalation if it continues will absolutely hurt Trump's reelection chances. Not only because we are tired of these wars and don't have romantic notions of fighting for truth and justice, but Trump is also completely incapable of sounding or acting "Presidential" in these moments. He'll turn an Oval Office TV spot informing the American people about a war we're engaging in into a campaign rally complete with insults to Rosie O'Donnell for some random reason.

I’m gonna lol at this. Did you read the quote from the kid in the OP? This is Trump’s base. Morans like this who would nuke the entire Middle East if they could and light a cigar while they’re pressing the button. So long as no blacks were around. That would ruin the experience for them.

So, imo, they’ll point to this as a kickass moment in his Presidency. They’ll point to the economy. And God knows what else. Cause ‘Murica: The land of the free, home of the dumb as ****.

This kid is a young Army soldier. What do you think 18 year olds join the Army for?

 I had a reply but decided to delete it. No need to waist effort, logic, or reason on a fanatical political thread.

To make Trump proud.
Well they don't join so that they can NOT go to war.

And I have no doubt that the overwhelming majority of young Army grunts are pro Trump, same as most Marines. But I bet you'd be surprised by Sailors and Airmen, not that they'd be overwhelmingly anti Trump but it'd be a pretty mixed bag. Most of the people I worked with in the Navy, judging by my relationship with them and what they post on FB, are not Trump supporters. A few are and are very vocal about it, but most people I worked with are not.

But I can tell you, NONE of us who deployed in 2003 with the clear expectation that we were going to go to war with Iraq were disappointed. We joined the military to do military stuff, like go to war.

That dumb kid is going to be a different person 10 years from now, and if he does end up going to war he'll be very different.

I hear ya, GF. I just don’t think it’ll make a difference at all. If anything, I think it’ll fuel his people. R’s will look at the economy and this moment and proudly vote for him, disgust on their face as they see whatever D’s name appears below his in the booth. Because that’s what 97% of them do.

I guess the other 3% needs to really swing and vote their *** off.

Cause they don't have any other worthy prospects and want someone to feed them, clothe them and take care of them all while learning some valuable skills that could help them in their future careers and give them college money and discounts on things etc etc.

If I could go back I would join the military without a doubt and I would hope that I would never go to war.

Lol. If Trump’s base is represented by some war hungry 18 year old, then his re-election chances are zero.
But, yeah, this is just another stupid remark by Wes. Trump’s base is something else.

I think this is a simplification and misunderstanding (and wishful thinking?) of a lot of Trump voters. Since he announced his run, people have been clamoring for the idea of something that will “sink” him and have gotten pretty desperate with what they cling to. As one of the few open Trump voters on this forum, I’d say this is probably the biggest enthusiasm hurter amongst a reasonable sized contingent of voters. Those people aren’t going out to pull the lever for whoever the Democrats nominate, but it hurts enthusiasm. I’m not really in support of this, but it would take a lot of nuance to unpack what that means, but simplistically I’d say I’m opposed. Could swing to a consideration for Tulsi on principle if she were running third party (she said she’s not), which is funny because everyone saying she’d siphon off Democrat votes and is doing the bidding of Russia. And I guess Trump taking an aggressive stance toward Iran is doing Russia’s bidding, or something, too. Those damn Russians. Why haven’t we started a war with them yet?

What are they clinging to? I'm interested to hear this.
