What's new

We need a backup Center

i firmly believe that bradley is not a defensive piece because his feet/jump really limits his defensive upside. he would shine on a more offense oriented team like Washington. or we can just try a more aggressive/offensive gameplan. Conley/bradley pick n roll would be a good start IMO

So when you think of a good offense oriented team, the best example that comes to your mind is..... Washington Wizards?
Also, you firmly believe that Bradley is not a defensive piece because his feet/jump limits his defensive upside? What the hell does that mean? I'm pretty sure that anyone who has ever looked at a few box scores of Bradley could say that he's not a defensive piece because of his stats and playing history. Numbers don't lie. His feet/jump (whatever that is) doesn't limit his defensive upside, his lack of historical give-a-**** limits his defensive upside. He's never had it in the past, who's expecting him to have it now?

except setting screens/having good hands/p&r are all offensive attributes which was the "shifting the gameplan focus to offensive" that i've been suggesting lol.

i'd agree Ed was a bad signing because he isn't good offensively but i'm not mad at all on centers who can't play "good defense" because we just took a big step backwards in that department this season, which was always the expectation. you don't let Favs go, bring in Conley/Bogey, give Niang PT and still expect to play "good defense". just how good of defense does your center need to play when you are pairing him up with those guys? just too much to ask so i wouldn't go there

huh? I don’t understand this post.

so let me repost what our backup center needs to do:

Play defense
Set screens
At least be a threat to score of the P&R

it’s pretty common. We just don’t have it right now

Well Bradley’s no Favors but who is? Fact of the matter is that we were spoiled all those years because we had the best back-up center in the league. That being said, we just won ten in a row with Bradley playing big minutes at backup. Bradley didn’t lose the game for us last night, Favors and Ingram won it for them. Favors is just so smart and plays the best D on Rudy in the league, no question we should of found a way to keep him but we didn’t. My priority right now is a good stretch 4/5 but not somebody to outright supplant Bradley because I realize that guys like Faves don’t grow on trees and truthfully, I’ve been very encouraged by Bradley’s development.

Realistic options , I’d be down for Bogut when he finishes his season ... plays hard D and very underrated passing for a big man ..

Him and Joe would work the pick and roll perfect

He's just too slow and unathletic to be a good defender. Effort isn't the issue for Bradley cuz lot of times you will see him putting up a good defensive stance and keeping his arms up to challenge the shot, then the opponent just simply score over him. You see Rudy doing those same things but his size/quickness/timing were just enough to alter those shots in ways that Bradley couldn't.

I used wizards as an example because they are a team that is currently ranked top 10 in the league on offense but dead bottom on defense. They care less about winning so would have the patience to give their young players some burn. Thomas Bryant, TBJ, Rui, Pasečņiks just to name a few

Yep! A 35 years old center who is slow afoot, can't shoot at all and is injury-prone is just what the doctor ordered.

I hate to rag on the dude but he is about as borderline between being an NBA player and a guy who should be playing in Europe as it gets. He is the very definition of a fringe NBA player.

Yes, and since we care less about winning we should be okay with that, try to run some offense for him that’s top ten offense, bottom of the league defense, and a lottery team net output, so we can play to Bradley’s strengths. Or we can pick up someone who’s an average rim protector.

Except Bradley is actually a threat to score on p&r and good at settings screens? We are not a charity organization that would just give free PT to players that aren't good at anything, so please stop pretending that is the case with Bradley...

He currently averages 7 screen assists per 36 minutes, only 1 less than Rudy...

https://stats.nba.com/players/hustle/?sort=TEAM_ABBREVIATION&dir=1&Season=2019-20&SeasonType=Regular Season&PerMode=Per36

And from this you can easily notice that he is actually neck and neck with Rudy on a lot of those hustle stats even beating Rudy on those loose ball recovery and shot contested stats, so the kid clearly tries hard on D, he just isn't talented enough to be great on that end...yet

https://stats.nba.com/players/roll-man/?sort=TEAM_ABBREVIATION&dir=1

And as a p&r threat, you can clearly see Bradley beating Rudy as a roll man in pick n roll both at ppg and efficiency...

That's why I said I'm perfectly fine with what Bradley's been giving us and those hate towards him have been unwarranted. Not many backup centers in this league right now can just come in and give us more than what Bradley's been giving us. Let alone finding those from the likes of Morgan, Bogut, Udoh, Fesenko lol

Average rim protection does nothing to a team that is currently getting constant blowbys on the perimeter and having a 6'4 guard as their second best rebounder/stopper on the floor. In fact, Ed Davis and Bradley already do that sort of “average rim propection” for you. Just compare their contest field goal differential to the rest of the league why don't you?

So as funny and ridiculous as you are trying to make it sound like, in reality you are seriously expecting our backup center to match Rudy on defense(and somehow consider that to be "average"), which is pretty unrealistic to say the least.

So know your personnel and play to their strength
